Re: Bonus points next season : Fri Jul 25, 2014 12:31 am
I dont see what the issue is.

You can be rewarded by winning 3 clear points of your opponents under the BP system and you can look at it two ways:

1 - Be rewarded for not throwing in the towel

2 - Be rewarded by 'tonking' your opponents by 12 clear points.

The top SL clubs will definitely not like it, and with 4 teams due to go into the 'middle mix', I can see it going to 2 for a win and 0 for a loss on all 3 divisions.

I can see the teams who are favourites to be in the bottom 4 wanting the BP though !!

Go back to 2pts for win but have golden point extra time for draws with the losers getting the BP

No extra time please, definitely not. It's late enough as it is getting home from away games with kids at school the next morning.

Summed up perfectly. I don't see why people get het up about it. Although I'd be inclined to reduce it to less than twelve - maybe eight - points.

Serious sport has nothing to do with fair play. It is bound up with hatred, jealousy, boastfulness, disregard of all rules and sadistic pleasure in witnessing violence. In other words, it is war minus the shooting.

Re: Bonus points next season : Sun Jul 27, 2014 8:11 am
I think I must be one of the only people who likes the BP. I think it keeps the game going to the final whistle and you can physically feel the losing team moving up a gear towards the end of the game, in the hope of getting a BP. The winning team does the same with the aim of stopping them and I like that.

Also I think that teams who lose by just a few points deserve something for their efforts compared to teams who get tonked.

I like it and hope it stays.

Please no! Bonus point is a terrible way to decide a drawn cup tie (should be extra time) never mind league games! If you've drawn after 80 min, you deserve to draw. We don't have to copy the Australians in absolutely every way you know.

I think the BP system has had barely any impact. If it stays or goes, it's not going to make much difference.

Unless your Workington that is. They have a massive 9 BP's and without them would be in the relegation zone.

There are no where near as many blow outs as there used to be (*Leigh games excepted :D), teams don't give up at 20 down these days.

it's obviously had an impact on the league table for some team. however, I'd like to see some stats backing this up, but I don't think there's been any significant impact on result patterns from season to season.

There are often teams around like Workington - good enough to test league opponents, but not good enough to win consistently. Teams that keep losing close matches seem to be the only ones benefitting from the system.

I don't think it's right to reward losing, but I also don't think it will make much difference whichever system is chosen.
