The reason Salford are paying so much money for Chase, wasn't to make them champions on his own. It was to get supporters through the gate, and bums on seats.
He is one of those players that fans want to see. He has a talent that so few have. Just look at the comments on here. Most recognise the talent he has, but have tried to negate that by saying he can't play to a team pattern. Salford first and foremost needed to ensure the interest in their club went up, and I would guess they are doing that. I bet the sponsorship on Chase alone far exceeds any of his team mates as an income for the club.
I don't agree by the way that he couldn't fit in with a top side. Personally we have our very own player who his team mates don't know what he is doing, and takes things on his own the majority of the time, in Burrow, but it hasn't stopped him playing at and winning trophies at a top side.
While I think he is a very good player I don't think he is the type of big name that's going to add loads to your gates.
I am pretty sure they would not meet his expectations, as he is a gobsh1te living in fantasy land with most of his outbursts.
But from what I can see Salford must be averaging over 6000 in their first five home games, and three of those games were against Wakey, and Cas and Huddersfield, which I would expect would generally be at the lower end of their normal crowds.
I don't know what they averaged last season, but thinking back to some of the comments on them previously, crowds was a very negative point for them, so would guess probably lower than 6000.
Edit: according to the Sporting Life website, they averaged 3178 last season. So for some reason they have almost doubled their average crowd at the moment. I wonder why
Their crowds haven't doubled really though in reality. They averaged around 5,500 in 2012. So really they've added just over 500+. The 2013 figures are due to not knowing if they'd have a club or being able to put ST on sale for a long time during the pre-season.

Anyone can but a spin on what they like, but the fact is there crowds have doubled at the moment on 2013 averages.
Spinning it the way you have, I guess Wakefield, Bradford, and Londons crowds haven't really gone down either.
Not really the same is it as Wakey have stadium limitations and the other two are constantly declining.
Whereas Salford were at a certain point, dropped for a year, gone back up to just over previous.
You tried spinning it, it didn't hold up, simple.
No it is exactly the same.
Have Salfords crowds increased by nearly double on last year? That is a purely factual situation, not one to suit any agenda.
Then you can ask, would Salfords crowds have increased to such a level without the outlay on marquee signings. Judging on last year, no they wouldn't.
And even if you really were stupid enough to believe that actually Salfords crowds would have being the same as 2012 regardless, then you still have a 10% increase this year, which most clubs would love to achieve.
I really don't know why you are trying to argue that one.
The 2012 average figure represented a then high water mark in the SL Era for the Salford club as they enjoyed a predictable initial upturn with the move into their new facilities.
That effect proved short-lived for various reasons and it's difficult to see where the increase in support witnessed so far in 2014 would have materialised from without the signing of the likes of but especially Chase - one of a sadly limited number of exciting players currently in SL.
Leeds may well be the much better team but Chase produced the outstanding individual performance and had he been in a Leeds shirt the debate on here would look very different, IMO.

Oh no I agree now you've used the word signingS.....they've made a dozen or so signings yet before you just had it down as Chase being the sole reason. No mention of Hock, Harrison, Morley etc.

Perhaps the difference is because we play Burrow at hooker?
But it is a team game and our team scored 32 point to Salford's 4 scoring six tries to one. Its about making the ball work and finding space something our halves do quite well.
Chase is a talented individual player but IMO he plays for himself above the team. Cas and England are better without him and I wouldn't want him at Leeds
