DON'T DIE WITH THE MUSIC IN YOU

Re: More Noise- Home and Away : Wed Apr 23, 2014 9:48 pm
Totally agree about the music thing - why bother when you just get drowned out? Even for other teams grounds with larger support I think it poor and an atmosphere killer - but for us with fewer fans we have no chance. Best atmosphere created by fans is probably Leeds (choke :x ) - they don't play try music!!! - they do play "Marching on Together" prior to the game starting to get everyone singing the same thing. seems to me that it works for them.

So stop the try music - get the "singers" to start the chant after we score - stick to the same chant so everyone knows what to expect and more will hopefully be inclined to join in.

I cannot believe that anyone (fan or not) attends a RL game because of the music played after a try is scored - but honestly believe that they will attend for the atmosphere that a good chant creates. After all that is what got me hooked on the Giants back in the old Fartown days - and until then I had only a very vague passing interest in RL.

It must be worth a go - what have we got to lose???

Perhaps need to get this idea in front of the club from those of you with some influence.

Also can I suggest something for away games. That is get a few friendly Giants fans to politely "marshall" our fans on arrival to the stands and encourage all to sit together in one area - no gaps - as I think that lots of people would join in chants/cheers etc... when surrounded by like minded Giants fans at close quarters. Left to our own devices we do have a tendency to spread out and leave massive gaps between small groups rather than sit together. This gets exaggerated the bigger the stadium - with the MW being the ultimate opportunity to scatter to the four corners - literally. Even when our away support is low - better to have a small group all in one place! Other subject on forum mentions a designated flag area - so at away games flags/banners would be a good way to highlight the designated area for Giants to congregate. Take the game at Hull FC as an example - we had the whole stand to ourselves so this could easily be accommodated without causing any upset to other supporters or concerns to stewards. Just a thought!

The reason the music is played is because the ground is so big you CANT HEAR those at the back!
I'd rather have the music than it appear as if it's deathly silence- which is what it does.
So Leeds don't do it- no but they have twice as many supporters in half the space and a really annoying band.
Other grounds do it though. Our place is bad enough- do away with the music and it really will be soulless.
Nowt to stop people cheering after (not that it will be heard around the ground).
It's just people trying to dictate how to support again- I imagine the club have done some research and have gone with the majority- just because that majority isn't the same as those that post on forums....

Agree with pretty all of the above. Regarding the music prior to kick off, I would love the Elvis version of '..... Falling in love' to be played leading upto the kick off. Not the UB40 version, which is frankly pants.

A nice rendition of '......falling in love' always gets the juices flowing, and sounds class when the crowd belt it out.

Sorry Jools - if that were true we may as well give up chanting, singing, or cheering at any time throughout the game 'cos we can't be heard??? Makes no sense I am afraid - we all have opinions eh?!

My point about Leeds agrees with yours - that is that Leeds do not play music to drown out their relatively large support - yet we doto drown out our lesser numbers. Does not make sense to me.

Why not try it (at he risk of a deathly silence) and see what happens? Just my opinion fella!

I don't get what you mean about drowning out though. Surely more noise is better and if that means playing a song then great! We can cheer and shout any time- why are you wanting nothing else when we score? I agree the choice of song is sometimes naff- not sure who chooses them.
Also Songs have been played for years- it's not a new thing! So don't know why folk have only moaned the last couple of years!
In the days of Chris Thorman the players choose songs- they all had their own and when they scored "their" song was played - Chris's was the equally naff 'gold' by spandau ballet- can't remember what anyone else had.
Maybe something like that would be better.
But for me noise is good. Keep the songs just have a better choice!

It's a no win situation though, if you play music no one bothers to sing because it can't be heard, but without the music the singing isn't heard ?

I think the problem is people don't start singing because they are expecting the music coming on now, maybe if it wasn't there - and if i recall it has only recently come back - the songs would get started and people would join in.
We need a happy medium from somewhere, maybe play the music after the initial celebrations have died down?

Maybe play songs that are more meaningful and a bit quieter?
In our stand most get on their feet and cheer when we score- maybe some meaningful song during the cheer followed by some singing?

I think 'Falling in love with you' should be played before the game! Everyone stand up with the scarfs above their heads it would look great!

Somewhere in the dust of time rest the bones of the Galilean
He who was spat upon. He whose face was marred beyond all human likeness
Somewhere buried among the lies of the past rests the tomb of Yeshua
Of he who was made God in a world without Hope.
And when this son of Joseph is found. What then will the Church of Rome say?
Prepare yourself for the day is coming. And men will say
"Blessed are the wasted lives who perished in the flames of the holy war"

I don't, it's a godawful, maudlin dirge.

I mean I'm massive fan of Leonard Cohen but I wouldn't want them to play Bird on a Wire before a game either.
