Those teams were not great sides in the late 1980s I can assure you.
The point was this was regarded by many of our fans as an era of fond memories despite the fact our results were as or more inconsistent than they are now and we had to play some teams that were borderline professional....
Is the new format, where presumably qualifying for the top 8 will actually mean something, going to be any worse than what we have had over the past few seasons, which is 28 friendly games and then the matches only counting once the playoffs start and Leeds decide to start taking it seriously?
This time last year on this forum people were saying how the league format was ruining the game because the atmosphere wasn't the same any more just watching Warrington go through the motions annihilating teams when it didn't matter.
The more I think about the new format the more I am willing to give it a shot. One thing that will have significance for us though is our performances against the top clubs must improve because if we do make it in to the top tier after the split those will be the games that carry over, and we will need to be top 4 to make the real 'playoffs' at the end, so games against Wigan, Saints and Leeds will be huge.
