Look at it this way, everyone wanted him to sign his last contract extension, he knew at the time the team would need rebuilding, instead of upping and loving off, he signed on, knowing the job in hand.

Now, he's never re built a team like this, so obviously he's here for the challenge. So, let's give him some space while he sorts it out.

He was Leeds best coach too but he seems to have a shelf life. One of the most senior players at Leeds told me that was evident just after he left for England. It looks like he was absolutely bang on.

Smith's last act as a Leeds coach was to win the Grand Final so I'm not sure at what point his shelf life ran out with Leeds...?

TS & the rest of us were thinking & planning that we would get one more season out of Lee, if Lee were fit & playing for us we would have won 2 or 3 more games this season he really was that good and made such a difference to us.

In addition to Lee not playing we have had medium / long term injuries to Woody, Grix, Super Ben, Ben Harrison & now Richie Myler.

From our G/F team last October, today we were 'missing' Moz, Super Ben, Simon G, Lee, Carvell, Mike Cooper & Chris Riley.

This is our season of transition & after 4 great years we have to suck it up.

Fatbelly you are right.

But in the off season weren't you predicting us to be champions.....?

I think the real problems are that

1. Some of the senior players that are still here and have had great success with us, are now past their best and no longer top quality
2. Some of the younger players that we had high hopes for, are not going to be top quality and we are finding this out

We are in a similar position Saints were in a year or so ago....and we will need some good recruitment over the next couple of seasons to get back up there.

For this season: expect playoffs (yes playoffs will happen although we might have some talk on the forum of 'forget playoffs, we're playing to avoid relegation'), a loss to the first top 4 team we face in the playoffs, and a loss in the Challenge Cup quarter/semi final to the first top team we face.

The art of success, or at least prolonged success, in sport is in managing transition, so you are managing the change rather than bailing water out of a stricken ship when the transition becomes a decline. We should and could have managed the change better, Briers was the only one that took us slightly unawares, the rest were allowed to leave or constructively forced out.

TS is still the man for the job, but that doesn't mean he and the club are infallible or do not have questions to answer about policy. As for writing the season off as a transition, if that's the case then I'm sure no-one will mind the paying public for adopting that stance at the turnstiles.

Yes I did, I still think an appearance in a final is not at all beyond us. Our injuries are starting to pile up now though and injuries could do for us.

Ah the old injuries line, I've missed this since the Cullen days.

Today's squad included ten internationals plus Michael Monaghan, its hardly a team full of kids

The only players that are kids are Laithwaite, Currie and Ben Evans who are pretty highly rated plus England is a novice at SL level.

If you were given the choice of swapping the Cas line up for ours would you switch?

It's either ridiculous or delusional comparing this squad to the Leeds of 2011/12.
