LOSS OF RESPECT FOR THALER : Tue Apr 22, 2014 7:53 am
Worst display of allowing laying on and messing around at the play the ball for a long time , Thaler needs to have a good look at the game on video . Sure it keeps the game close for a while which might suit the powers that be but it sure frustrates the hell out of supporters and the tackled player . Frankly he was lucky the game did not get out of hand (credit to Leeds for that ) but if it had then there was only him to blame

I am a big fan of Thaler, for me has been the best ref for the last couple of years. Even when we have lost games with him in the past, I have always come away thinking he can not be to blame and he still did his job well.

Yesterday, I thought he was horrendous. Not just with the holding down. He got a lot wrong IMO.

Agree with that Gotcha. I've always thought he was a good ref. Don't think he had a good game yesterday though.

Interestingly, we seem very quick to get up off the tackled player, seems as though we're willing to allow a quicker play the ball rather than risk getting penalised.

That'll change when JJB comes back

The penalty count was still 11-4 (I believe) in our favour.
It wasn't Thaler who kept dropping the ball early in the tackle count in the first half especially, though Ablett also dropped the ball denying what seemed to be a certain try in the second half too.
Let's not forget he penalised Chase on at least 2 occasions for running behind his own players, offences that other refs may have missed.

I agree to a point, though Chase/Salford should've penalised for crossing/obstruction a couple more times than they were in my opinion!
But my main gripe was the holding down at the play the ball.

But as I said, I think he's a good ref who doesn't appear to have the ego of some other refs.

I agree with most said on here but again they aren't held accountable when they are poor so I don't expect anything to change.
Noticed that Singleton got penalised again for sitting down a Prop with his shoulder that rule needs adjusting imo.

That shot was the highlight of the game for me, and I hate that he was penalised. To me, that is a perfect example of why a legitimate shoulder charge should not be penalised, it's a great part of our game, and is no more dangerous than a prop running the ball back straight and hard at a little halfback from a kick off.

The only real danger from a legitimate shoulder charge (not contacting with the head) is the whiplash effect - but that can happen in any good tackle. In my opinion, the governing body have taken this stance to stop shoulder charges to the head - something that was already illegal, they just needed to be firmer with their interpretation of the existing rules.

We're softening our game too much, and risk taking out a big part of the game that attracts alot of fans and players alike. Without the heavy contact, aggresion and odd bit of biff, the game will lose some of it's appeal for many people.

It's not just the not accountable. They guy we have running the show at the moment, Ganson, was not respected as a ref by other officials, or by players. So how did he get that job? A perfect example was on Thursday, the Hull derby. He was the video ref and made wrong decisions, yet he has the technology to hand and is the leader of this merry bunch. Having Cummings on the sky team is great for me, as you get a refs perspective. How many times on Thursday was his view different to the one Ganson came out with.

I would like to take a step back a few years here, and put an Aussie in charge of officials. Someone who has not done the gig with these others before, and someone who takes responsibility for ensuring that the least we can expect is consistency.
