My eyes are still hurting... : Sun Apr 20, 2014 11:35 am
First of all I know there are probably umpteen threads on this already but having waited 48 hours to post maybe mine is a fresher perspective.

Sadly it's still Agar out for me.

Forget about the errors, lack of intensity for much of the game or the fact that Cas actually looked a bit tired to me. Forget the fact that the team probably isn't fit, didn't follow the game plan or that Agar wasn't the one missing tackles. All this is true and self evident, and all can be excused to a greater or lesser degree.

However one staggering fact that cannot be ignored was the team selection and the positioning of players.

Mr Carter put on here once that he didn't understand the game - I admired his honesty. Well all but the most deluded on here will admit that although we know more than nothing about the game we certainly are not experts - we just have a fair knowledge of a sport we love.

So why did Agar go with a line up so stupid that even the most unknowledgeable of RL fans could have told you was ridiculous and then some. It was like a Rubic cube which I expected to slot into the right positions at the next turn - but it never did. Mr Carter you're being taken for a ride by a man whose either lost it or is deliberately sabotaging your team. It's sad it really is I hoped Agar was the one and after the first one and a half seasons he looked like he may be but the last 12 month have been an utter disaster, he's had his chance.

GO

Finally not taking it away from Cas they did a job, and they won't find a much easier one this year. :(

100% agree. I posted the other day is Agar trying to be sacked for a pay off. Its worrying but I am actually believing this. Moore got us back in the game he took him off then they pulled away then he put him back on again when the game had gone. His dreary interviews are worrying excuse after excuse. His he trying anymore? I WOULD SAY NO!

The thing that I notice from a non Wakefield viewpoint is that Agar's post match comments from every game are the same, it seems that he could be putting a recording on explaining how "we haven't had a pre-season"and "gelling" which I find interesting, as everytime I see the line up for a Wakey team it is vastly changed. Is a squad able to gel when the coach plays the spine of the team in a different place every week? As a Cas fan I was happy to see Mathers on the wing as I knew he'd be inneffective, and I'll assume he hasn't played there in a while - not since he played 40 mins there for Cas after moving from FB because he had a mare against Wigan. He seemed to be sulking from minute one to minute eighty and only contributed by trying to start a fight.
Sammut and Godinet to me looked threatening with the ball, but getting it in the wrong position. Again I aren't proclaiming to know your team as well as you do, just what I noted as a casual viewer.
I found Daryl Powell's comments post match interesting too when he stated that he expected Wakefield to tire and they did. I thought at 20-26 you'd go for it hell for leather, but it never came and we ran away with it.
Looking at your squad on paper, it's a good side with quality players that could or should be getting you up the table or at least getting closer than you are. We all saw what happened when Millward was halted from driving Cas into the ground, and if Agar goes I anticipate a similar turnaround would be on the cards.
For me it started with Kirmond on Friday - any coach who let him go on the pitch on the first game of Easter when he clearly wasn't fit isn't doing their job properly. Had a fully fit player been on instead it would have been surely less tiring for the team.

Local rivalry aside, after everything you have been through over the off season this team is capable of doing better and giving your long suffering fans more fight than they have been. They're cheating themselves and more importantly the fans.

Just had a visit from my Dad of 81 years and said Mathers on the wing his immediate reaction "what idiot would put Mathers on the wing".
I think he hit the nail on the head though when he said the players all think hes a good coach and so do the ones that have played for him is it because he is like a mate as opposed to a coach. He said you cant do that he has to be the boss simple as and quoted what Smith said to a Warrington player "Its my way or the highway Im the boss".Said hes making the team selections as its bust and he don't know how to fix it is what it looks like.

Me I think he could be right on the button yes he might have a long contract but if fans turn away how much will that cost even a 1000 season ticket holders staying away spending £10 per head on Beer,Burger,Pie will be £10k per game and don't forget the warmer weather is to come so that pint will be 2 or 3 so more lost income. If we get relegation then that will be the end and the way things are going its a big possible.Even from the off we have had a side that cant defend under Agar and that's our biggest problem.
Sorry hes had his chance its time to go.

On boots n all the other night it was suggested that Wakefield had major problems and tthat Agar was holding things together . Now are things going on that we know nothing about or could the pundits have things wrong.
Long contract or not, MC will have to make the decision on if Agar stays or goes and the sooner the better.
Then you must look at cost of the departure and a new man in and whose available.
Because of the above and Im not sure that we do know all the facts I think agar will stay.

You would have thought with MC being a Hull fan he would know all about his coaching methods and quirky selections.

On boots and all did they mean the playing side and they thought that Agar was the man holding things together.Cant see it being beyond that as Agar has no input beyond being coach.

The major problems are that our coach refuses to stick with a settled team and insists on playing players out of position or not fully fit.
To have your Captain off after 20-25 mins and your VC on the wing is very, very silly indeed.

Sometimes, in fact often, I feel lost in the modern world of sport. Are you telling me that Michael Carter, our owner, is a Hull fan?
I would not be surprised. Hetheringtons running our club. All twisted and whiffy fo me. I love Trinity but am SICK TO THE CORE of it all. No wonde those Blackpool FC fans stopped their game with tennis balls (very clever). As sick as we are
