Wath Brow 44 v 12 Leigh Miners
Leigh Miners suffered their heaviest defeat of the season yesterday afternoon when they went down 44-12 away at Wath Brow Hornets, the game being in the balance until around the hour mark before the home side pulled away in the final quarter to win comfortably. The game started at a fast pace in the warm conditions and stayed like that throughout with Wath Brow having the better of field position and possession in the first half but where unable to find anyway through a hard working Miners defence who snuffed out what ever Brow threw at them and the score going into the half time interval was an unusual 0-0.
Wath Brow come out strong in the early parts of the second half and they got the first points of the day early on when veteran Leroy Joe went over, Scott Pink converting to make it 6-0. Miners hit back straight away with a converted try from Jonny Youds and where in front just after the fifty minute mark with another Jonny Youds try and goal to make the score 12-6 in favour of Miners. That lead was short lived after Miners spilled the ball early in the next set from the restart and from then on it was all Wath Brow, Karl Dixon scoring with Pink adding the extras to tie the game up at 12-12. A third home try followed just short of the hour mark from their left winger to go four points in front and then the floodgates opened with Wath Brow getting a roll on and gaining in confidence with their vocal crowd now behind them to run in five more tries in the final quarter to run away 44-12 winners much to the disappointment of Miners who where well in the game up until the hour mark before being blown away in the last twenty minutes to leave them with alot to work on this week at training.
Next week Miners are away at Hull Dockers.
