I'll take the win...but I fear we'll still see a weakness in the halves again when under pressure from a decent pack. Our speed from dummy half was much quicker and helped our go forward.
You can only beat what is in front of you, and many of Widnes' failings were down to our quick line speed, aggressive forward play in both attack and defence, quick play the balls and willingness to promote the ball.
We started fast and didn't let up and the players deserve credit as much as they've deserved criticism.
Yes, Cas away will be tough but there was enough on show today to hint at the promise of better days to come.
very well said...if i hadnt watched todays mauling and just come on here to find out how wed done,id be convinced wed have suffered another pasting..lets be upbeat weve walloped a team that did the double over us last season end were above us in the league
Widnes were very poor, we murdered them around the rook, even monoghan looked like the player he was 4 years Ago. I hope people aren`t getting giddy over that game. Our halfbacks are woefull. Ratchford is a fullback, myler is a support player and gob is not good enough. Harrison has been treading water for a couple of years, laithwaite is not good enough, Riley is a clumsy oaf, a year or so ago our bench was full of internationals.

I agree you can only beat what's in front of you, however, I don't think a good side would have collapsed in the manner that Widnes did today and that is why it is difficult to judge any side when they have such a one sided victory.
Its not that Wire didn't play well, its just that there wasn't really a challenge for them once they got in front - Compare to the Grand Final, where we romped into a 16-2 lead against a good side who weren't in the habit of collapsing at the first sign of crisis - That's when you can really judge a team's character and ability, not against mid table teams, with no stomach for a fight.

With us being the better side these days, we are licking our lips at inflicting more misery on Wire in the coming derby. I expect a fairly straight forward win.
Just watched the game back and I would like to redact my previous comment about GOB being 'faultless'; there were a few poor calls and duff passes in there, but I am still far more confident when he is playing.
If he doesn't get a start next week against Cas then he might as well look for a new club.

Who else is going to play there? Myler and Bridge are injured, GO'B has done enough to keep his place for Monday baring injury I believe. He put some great tackles in and was clever with the boot. As you said he made some errors but so did others who play week in week out first team rugby.

I had thought it was more a case of Myler carrying a small knock and being 'tactically rested'. I guess I meant that, even when Myler is fit, GOB deserves his place; he made a few errors, as you say, but Myler has had consecutive stinkers.
I didn't know that Bridge would be out, do you know how long for and the nature of the injury? That doesn't bode well for our conversation rate in a game where I think it's going to matter.
I watched the game back last night and it was mentioned on Sky that Bridge had a slight groin injury. I'm not sur M Monnas will play 2 games in quick succession. Thought he had his best run out of the season yesterday.
