Re: More Noise- Home and Away : Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:13 am
I am fairly new to the giants my fifth season after being converted by my other half who's being coming since she was a kid! We now have two grandfathers, two daughters, a niece, a son in law (me) and my two children four and two! And we love a good atmosphere! We chant along and try spur on the lads!

We sit in the middle of the Brit rescue stand, and I have to say the boys at the back really do get us going! To those fellas you are the conductors really, there is a fair few around us who cheer and chant but it's always started by you guys! Message is keep it up! You guys start then we start and it spreads as the fans around don't feel embarrassed to join in! Some may tut but come on the players have said they want a vocal crowd!! So let's be supporters and support the boys!

One point the group on the riverside, think it's tansey? Well they get up and chant can our lads at the back join in and try get the two sides going together?!

I have been watching the Fartown for 28 years. In this time I have sat with my dad, my mates and a few years ago sat with Tansey and Pawson.

I recently had a couple of seasons sat on my own and actually enjoyed it.

The last couple of years I have been sat/stood at the back of the Britannia. Some great lads up there and always have a laugh. There is the odd idiot who over does it on the swearing (i don't mind a bit of swearing) and starts ridiculous songs. But majority are top folk.

The main thing anyone can do for this club is attract young families - that's the future. Forget about galric bread.
As for the chanters at the back of the Britannia - keep it up. If you can keep it topical and cut out the wanky wanky, bullsh1t and we hate Rhinos chants all the better.

Sitting with my folks who are in their late sixties, I'm not really in the right area of the Brit to join in. But I love attending the few away games I do, much better atmosphere too I find. Really like the Wigan games, and for once in recent times salford yesterday was good too!

With reference to the comment 'Young families are the future'...

If this is the case then the club would be seeing the benefit of all those 10-12 year olds who got free tickets in 2006 onwards. The fact is, marketing to families fails on so many levels. Families have less disposable income and therefore are less likely to buy shirts, food, scarves etc, they are looking for a 'cheap' day out. When the free junior tickets become paid tickets they simply stop coming altogether.

Marketing is not about attracting 3 people who pay for one season ticket and nothing else but attracting one person who buys shirts, tshirts, hoodies, food, attends home and away. The club need to improve the age mix by offering something different to attract the 'Big Night Out' crowd.

If the club is to ever become self sufficient then relying in free tickets for kids is never going to be a bit mistake. Fortunately the club have access to the stats on the season tickets sales so will know this already.

the Claret And Gold Machine is ready to roll

sunday September 1st 2013, when a dream became a reality!!

Re: More Noise- Home and Away : Sat Apr 19, 2014 9:46 am
spot on wadski, attracting families with young kids is great and very welcome but that only applies to sunday games, not many families with kids attend night games or away games (nic & cobi & jools and her brood excepted)
it's good to see lots of kids enjoying themselves at home games but not so many on thursday/friday nights and away games., but as you say we also need to attract the young adults that will want to travel to away games and attend night matches.

Exactly, those free season tickets back then should be the 16-20 age group now who should be coming to the games and bringing friends /family etc, they're not so it hasn't worked really.

Attracting fans and keeping them are the holy grail.

Attracting families is only the first step but an important step.

Keeping those kids is much harder 'cos people these days only want to be associated with success.

Off field activity can only go so far - on field success determines the attendance as BB have found.
