Correct. I no longer take any interest in "summer rugby" which may be defined as that period of time between mid-May and mid-August when most other forms of football negotiate their natural off-season as opposed to operating as a butt-plug for Sky Sports schedules during the summer months.

No, he's a firm believer in proper Winter rugby, like they played before those nasty people at Sky came along and ruined everything.

10k+ Crowd at Odsal tonight, a mid week match and what was always going to be a walk over.
In the 10 years before Super League, Bradford's average home attendance was a whopping 5291.

10k+ crowd at Hull tonight and 150k probably watching it live on Sky. In the 100 years before Sky came along there were no live league games on TV.

Bring back proper RL. Sky have totally destroyed the game !!

I totally agree with this post.

We Widnes folk often get called Scousers. However, we aren't in Merseyside. St Helens is. They are plastic Scousers.

Wigan is in the greater Manchester region so that makes them Mancs.

We in Widnes though are nicely in Cheshire so don't have any of the Manc/Scouse labels.

Nah you miss the point. You're way too close to Liverpool to blag your way out of it (I think even marginally closer than St Helens), and the scouse twang of most Widnesians is unmistakable. County borders are irrelevant.

Back when I was young and foolish I went out with a Widnes lass for a few years, spent enough time in Big Jims to know what I'm talking about.

Plastic scouse, like it or not.

just on the widnes thing, years ago on one of our early visits to naughton park we were indulging in some banter with the locals when one of our older fans made a comment about widnes being scousers, widnes fans replied that they are not scousers they are widnesians ( in a fairly strong scouse twang) to which said fatown fan replied- "you're all the same, you steal cars and you don't know who your fathers are"-

still makes me laugh today

Having moved away from Yorkshire 4 years ago, and now living in London (2 years in Germany inbetween), I didn't even realise that it was a derby weekend.

Which is probably because once you get south of Sheffield it is very rare to see or hear anything in the media about Rugby League.

It's bad that sky money pretty much keeps the game alive in this country.

It would be better if sky pulled out and then the games would be free to play whenever , wouldn't it? (but the game would probably go bust)
