What we can learn from HKR Vs Hull : Thu Apr 17, 2014 9:04 pm  

lots of dodgy decisions went against HKR tonight.

Did they spend all game yapping at the ref NO.

Went to drop goals. HKR missed there first but got a decision it was charged down.

Next set HKR again go for a drop goal it looks pretty iffy BUT they get the decision.


If they had spent all night yapping at the ref they might not have been given that last DG.


Maybe a lesson for our players

Scrap video referees but then that gets more obvious week in week out as their decisions get more baffling by the game.

I have to say i have always liked the VR idea but the more i watch them the more i think they are clueless.

I find so many of the decisions baffling.

What we learn is line speed! We don't play a fast moving defensive line often enough! As a fan there are few things better than watch our line come full pelt to put the opposition on their booty as quick as possible! Nothing a deflating as being hit as soon as the play the balls been played and making very few metres, it sucks the life and will out of teams!

They do not know how to video ref and are inluenced by the decision already made, so instead of viewing with BOD to the attack (as they are supposed to) they look for evidence to support the decision they and the ref already have in mind. That may be in part human nature, but makes a mockery of the technology as so many calls appear wrong. Far better to go with the Aussie system where the ref makes his call clear to crowd and viewers and the vieo ref is looking for clear evidence to reverse. That would result in inconclusive calls always going the way first signalled rather than some going one way other another, result would be more credibility.

Of course that doesn't remove the Ganson factor, he seems to be at it again in Saints v Wigan, he appeared to be having a bit of a go at the video ref before even reviewing the dodgy ball steal decision that just led to a Saints try. I am firmly of the view that ref standards will continue to decline with Ganson in charge.

Some good points there. The VR should only be there to reverse any obvious ref howlers. The ref should be saying 'This is my decision - conclusively prove me wrong otherwise my decision stands' not 'check that for me 'cos I'm a wimp who can't make decision to save my life even though that's what I'm paid to do'.

i prefer the system they use in the toyota cup(nrl under 20's). its called captains challenge and captain is allowed to argue one call per half, similar to cricket,but use that system with video ref ,, we wouldprobably still get howlers but the game would not be stop /start as in the hull kr/fc game
