The rules really are as clear as that, the only reason the Aussie articles say that Marshall wouldn't count on the cap is lazy journalism - I can post the "new talent pool" rules here if you would like to dissect yourself but the take away is to qualify a player must have never played league before. Marshall, eastmond and tomkins do not qualify, and thus would require special dispensation from the rfl.

If J Tomkins came back to league however he would qualify for any and all home grown dispensations that may (should) get voted in

Ah ok fair enough, that seems the most sensible way but the various articles stating Benji wouldn't count on Salford's SC confused me.

I'd love to see Joel back in a Wigan shirt and he's exactly the sort of player the current squad is lacking, providing a few years in union hasn't ruined him like we've seen with other players who've gone and come back.

It's my absolute pet peeve atm!

All comes back to a tweet of koukash's stating Union players don't count on the cap - the Aussie press took that to immediately mean all of them without exception and it spiralled from there!

Whilst it would be good to see a few prospects come back, it seems very rare these days players can come back and still fulfil their early potential :/ I think we may see a few teams try and pick up a few Union players after 2015 though
