Football fans from across South Yorkshire are set for a scrum down this month as they turn to support their local rugby team.

Doncaster Rovers are teaming up with the Dons to get their fans to support the town's rugby league team.

The Dons play Barrow Raiders and Workington Town at the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday 15th July and Thursday 26th July respectively in matches which will see them battle it out for the league winners' title.

Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of Doncaster Rovers said: "We are proud to be working with the Dons to bring some fantastic offers to Rovers fans and to get people to come along and support the rugby team.

"Our season ticket holders are being offered tickets for the games at half price and Alliance members can also benefit from their continued support of Rovers youth team by also being eligible for this deal.

"Any Rovers fan purchasing tickets for all three home friendly fixtures will also receive a £5 discount off the price of a ticket.

"We will continue to work with the clubs who use the Keepmoat Stadium to provide more for all of our fans and we look forward to bright sporting year ahead."

The Keepmoat Stadium has been home to the Dons and Doncaster Rovers since it opened in 2007.

Dons' chief executive Carl Hall, said: "We offer a very warm welcome to all Rovers fans and thank the club for their support in what will be very exciting games.

"We are vying for the league winners title and as such these are crucial games with the Dons looking to avenge their defeat at Workington earlier in the season and get the better of top-of-the-league Barrow.

"We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Keepmoat Stadium on both July 15th and July 26th."

Match day tickets are on sale now - contact the ticket office on 01302 762576 to book your seat.

Good idea to try and boost the attendance.
Will the Rovers be returning the favour to Dons season ticket holders?

Good initiative! :D

Working together can bring benefits.

Let's hope the rivalry between football and rugby doesn't get in the way of us all pulling together for Doncaster, stopping supporters of the Rovers from watching the Dons.

It'd be great to see 1,000+ down there for the game.

Come on Rovers fans - get down to see some excellent entertainment!
If you want to be respected – be respectful. Criticising is easy – it’s better to be constructive. Don’t harm a Dons’ fan – we’re an endangered species!

It will be interesting to see if the crowd is more than the 700 we normally get.
I sincerely hope so.
