The 25-year-old has now scored 27 tries in 23 games at Brookvale Oval. But it remains unclear whether Williams will get the chance to build on that impressive record after this season, with the off-contract winger's future still up in the air.

It has been suggested he may end up playing for Leeds in the English Super League, but Williams rubbished the claims, admitting he was hopeful of remaining at the club for next year and beyond.

''I don't know who tossed up Leeds, but that's an absolute porky,'' he said.

''Someone tossed it up that I was doing interviews during the World Club Challenge. I tell you what, I had no interviews over there.

''I'm hopeful of staying [at Manly], my manager's doing it all. He's the smart one of the relationship.''

I can hear the accent from here.

I presume he was interviewed whilst wearing a cork hat and slapping a few shrimps down on the 'barbie'
