I wonder if R.A. is looking at off loading quite a few backs at the end of the season including some of our first choice ones if he is trialing Lee Smith?
Well, personally speaking I reckon I'd like to see Motu Tony given a run at full back before making a decision on Richie Mathers.
Tony is without doubt the best F/B at the club - I would imagine few doubt that. However he's clearly broken and has little or no first team left in him. Tony is not even the present let alone the future, sadly.
I'd look at John in that position - now that we have signed him on a 3 year deal we need to find a place for him and he can't be worse than Mather - he tries but just can't cut it, it's not like he hasn't had the chance - Mark Field made less errors than him and the lynch mob chased him out of BV in half a season.

Not far wrong, and he tried like hell just couldn't do it at this level.
Lets start a forum just for Wakey fans, we can all back slap each other and not have anyone to tell us any different, i want to be the club puppy and make myself look stupid time and time again.
I still believe a fit Nathan Batty would still be our fullback to this very day. That lad was a very good player. Far better than mathers, blaymire and field.

Col was better full back than those 4 and Andrew Leeds was even better.

Mathers has shown he can organise a defence and whilst willing to join the attack and carry the ball, he makes little impact in doing so resulting ina s low play the ball. He's prone to errors which every player is, it's just that more often than not they result in tries for the opposition.
Lee Smith looked brilliant when he first came into Leeds' first team, he moved to Union and on returning hasn't looked half the player he was. He's prone to giving penalties away and has a bit of a nasty side to him BUT he has potential. It's just whether we or anyone else can get that out of him.

John might be worth a shot- he clearly has ability and is young enough to adapt.

I like Mathers, I wasn't his greatest fan at Cas but I now think he's a good asset and worth signing up. He's scored some good tries its just that the recent errors are outweighing the good parts of his game ATM. Every player is allowed a dip in form at the level we are at this moment in time. There are plenty of other players dropping off tackles and making mistakes too.
