With this in mind I wish the lad all the very best for a good recovery.

Bruno had a detached retina repaired when he was 30 so he must have fought on a bit after that. He also had an operation in Colombia , when he was 18 to correct his short sightedness. So it's not neccessairily curtains for Mellors' career.
