Watched the State of Origin repeat. Will Mal Meninga and Ricky Stuart ever learn? Surely these guys need a long chat with Nathan Brown. They seem clueless.

First they tend to play with 4 large props – crazy I know. Surely Browny can explain why this is so old fashioned and show how guys who play centre or hooker are better suited to playing prop and how having only 2 or 3 props is the way forward.

I had to laugh when I saw the SoO teams. For some strange reason they did not play Thurston and Carney at 13! Why didn’t these coaches move the best 6 they have to 13, sacrifice a big high minute forward at 13 and play their second best 6 in the 6 shirt? Fancy putting gallen at 13 and not Carney  They defy logic.

If Meninga and Stuart do not know that the new game is about having fewer & smaller props and then putting more strain on these guys by having a half back at 13 then they need to get a different job!

Cripes is right, you should have told him this 2 months ago when we were playing people out of position and sitting nice at the top of the league. Its easy to point the finger at the obvious when things arent going our way, but it served us well in the first half of the season!

Didn't serve us well for half a season, it was less than that. We have been well and truely sussed out.

"the obvious" is sadly not obvious to the person who can do something about it.

Dont know your RL CV but as it seems you`re so obviously a coach with far more pedigree why not put him right next time you`re face to face ? Sad it wasnt disclosed before they chose his successor (or his assistants)

He who sadly isnt in a position to justify his actions might just go on to being a success at Saints -and you`ll have done him one hell of a favour!

GS / TS / JS / NB et al were the chosen candidates
The fans didnt appoint them !

Indeed.

I think we should play with 4 props and Brown at 6. A view stated by plenty of people on here. Do you have an opinion on giants playing systems?

You are absolutely right that fans do not appoint coaches. While Schofield was a disaster the other 3 you flag up have helped take the club forward.Maybe fans should make these selections. How would a Supporters Trust make such a selection? Your post raises some interesting issues.

While i do agree with you somewhat cripes with regards to playing players out of position, its hard to blame the annual slump on that.

Previously it has been blamed on coach speculation, and a similar thing has happened this year, especially with players being poached to other clubs.

The fact is that although players have been playing out of their natural positions, it has previously worked, and the fact that these players have proved they can play in their 'new positions' leaves no excuse to why people are missing tackles etc. I would guess this is more of a morale issue and lack of confidence following a few disappointing resuilts.

As a note to players in/out of positions, Bruno for me has looked solid in the second row, and has allowed for the progression of Cudjoe (England International) and Wardle a Knights player and probably one of our best centres this year! Moving Robinson to hooker has led to him receiving international honours and left the scrum half berth to Danny Brough, the best kicking half back in the league.

Brown and Grix are difficult, didn’t Brown start at centre at Wigan? I don’t know where he played in his youth but with I feel that he started the season strongly at loose forward and he didn’t have to worry about his kicking game as much. Browns defence has always been a little suspect, but I don’t think a move from 6 to 13 will have made his defence any worse. Grix has literally played in every position in his career, moving him to full back last year worked well, but is that his natural position? When Brett moved to Wire Grix said he was happy to take over the full back mantle, even though he preferred playing half back….

sadly I think the slumps could have different causes for each of the last 3 years.

Your points re bruno / Robbo are on the money.

My original post was focussed on the failure to play 4 actual props at prop. Fooey, Fergy, Chan and Gilly etc have all played there while actual props have been sat in the stands. At Hull larne was moved into the back row for the first time this year!

Secondly IMO brown is a far better 6 than Grix, and 6 is a key position. defensively Grix does not cut it in the halves in the brown system of play. I think he misses 6 or 7 tackles a game? i do think grix is a more effective full back who did a first rate job organising our defence.

With 10 interchanges + playing non props at prop + playing a 6 at 13 we allow mediocre clubs easy ways to work us over.

Cannot disagree with any of this.

The problem we do have is that we are short of props anyway and that was a decision made before the season started. That is why TONKS was brought in IMHO as a panic measure.

I would love to see a second row of Chan and Patrick.

For me the writing was on the wall as early as London away. Even though we won comforatbly we were battered in the forwards. We only won because our backs played so well and defensively London were quite disorganised.
I posted at the time or soon after that as soon as we came up against a team with good forwards who were organised defensively we would struggle.

Without our full team available and playing in their positions i cannot see us beating wigan,, Saints or Wire again this season.

You could have come to the Supporters Association's meeting the other night and put your points personally to Nathan.
