But none showed up so he took an offer from Spurs.

Harsh....You could actually argue Spurs are a bigger club than Chelsea.....Certainly historically bigger, fanwise the equal, if not bigger than Chelsea, and didn't they finish above Chelsea last year, so its difficult to make a case for Chelsea being a bigger job.

I know it'll wind up LGJM, but without Roman's oil money, Chelsea would be no bigger than West Ham.
And so you aim towards the sky,
And you'll rise high today,
Fly away, Far away,
Far from pain....

You're wrong. We'd have been no bigger than Brentford and Orient. In fact, Wimbledon were close to overtaking us.

Well surely if Arsenal have twenty French players in their academy that's a block to development?

If Arsenal's players were good enough, they'd move on and become the great players they're destined to be, like Sidwell and Pennant did.

I don't think foreigners stunt the growth in either sport, it just seems that RL fans are paranoid about these dead nasty Aussies stopping the conveyor belt of world class talent. Talent will make it regardless of who is in the way, the only thing that stops it from natural progression is either the player himself or the coach. I don't think a quota should be brought in to cap teams having a certain amount of foreigners, but if one was brought in I wouldn't be bothered, but who would tune in when the main attractions are the foreign players?

I'm with you on that but it's an argument that rarely appears in football and I always wondered why there was a difference.

I suppose it's strange, but I think I'm being fair when I say most people in football don't give a funk. I think RL fans are a bit more paranoid when it comes to 'foreigners', people seem to think they are superhuman and must be on bigger wedges than most, otherwise why would they be here? In football, it seems to be accepted that foreigners are better value for money, whilst average foreign players also seem to be accepted as the norm. People in RL think that an average Aussie is taking the place of a passionate local lad, whereas in football, the perception seems to be that an average foreign player is probably better value for money than an English lad, whilst they present greater resale value as foreign players are always more willing to play in another country.

I dunno, I guess it's just the way everything is viewed. Aussies and Kiwis are viewed as mercenaries by quite a lot of RL fans, they're usually here for a big pay day at the end of their career, or because the NRL isn't interested. In football, we get more foreign players in their prime and plenty more coming here to prove themselves and progress their career. I dunno, I guess you're right in what you're saying, I guess there are plenty of reasons that the fans are so different. What was the perception of foreign players when they first came to Britain in football?

I would love to examine the algorithm used in compiling the FIFA rankings. I'm fairly convinced there's a massive hole in their logic.

They're the Champions of Europe. That was easy. Do I get bonus points for answering it in less than ten words.
