Check out "Thats Rugby League 70's" on that well known video site.

I will warn you its not for the faint hearted.

You would not believe how brutal RL was in the 1970's if you weren't alive at that time.

Amongst British players featured are Cliff Watson giving the aussies the old Liverpool kiss, and what a corker of a hit it is. Totally deserved by the Aussie, as he tried and failed to plant two headbutts on Cliff before cliff showed him how to do it properly.

However this pales in comparison with Mal Reilys leap to catch a ball before Karate Kicking an aussie in the crown Jewels. I reckon a player doing that today would be banned for a season.

Very interesting to see the huge crowds in the Uk to watch international RL.
A massive crowd of just 10,000 turned up to watch GB v Australia at Wembley in the early 1970's.
Remember GB were still highly competitive then.

Great to see again, I was 14 in 1970 and those players are the ones we were watching every week, we didn't think it was brutal, its just the way the game was and its proof that despite full time professionals playing the game now nothing has changed too much - anyone who only knows Superleague will I suspect quite happily watch that video and think they've seen some great RL.

As for the crowds, weekly attendances weren't up to much in the 70s and not an excuse but maybe a half-reason for the low attendance at Wembley - it was a bloody long way to go in 1970, I went on a supporters club bus to the 1971 cup final and it took us over five hours to get there!
