He's very quick and a good carrier of the ball. The only thing I worry about is his physical stature, he's quite short and not sure how he'd cope under pressure under a high ball but we'll never know unless he gets a go. There's certainly no harm giving Sam a rest, having played a lot of rugby this season and the strapping he had on Monday. We have some important games in the future that we need our top players available for so makes sense. I'd rest Mickey Mac in the next few weeks too but not tonight. I think Russell is just ahead of him in pecking order but it makes sense for his development to leave him at Hull FC where he will play every week not just tonight
"Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.
He's definitely playing. His aunty told me last night, talk Hock was being considered to be rested too

would you have considered a team at the beginning of the season that didn't have the following in it:-
Tomkins Richards Leuluai Prescott Lima Hock Hansen
this could happen to the side we put out tonight ( 5 will be missing for sure anyway) it just goes to show how Wigan have developed as a squad as a whole and how well the young players have played when given a chance. Keep up the good work IL , SW and the rest of the coaching team.
Watched Jack quite a bit this year and he is a confident young chap with good hands under the high ball.
He has a great side step too but I know that Bradford will target him and try to beat him up.
I hope that Waynes protection request for Sam stretches to all our younger players too, but if Murphy can keep a cool head, he certainly has the talent to step up.

Given the five who will be definitely missing if Wane rests players he doesn't have to as well, this has Widnes first game written all over it. It also puts too much pressure on the remaining senior players such as Finch.
So far its been a tribute to the team and coaching staff we have dealt with the injury situation as we have but there is a limit and with five automatic 1st 17 players out this isn't when you rest even more players IMO. The injury situation is already giving Wane plenty of opportunity for Wane to give younger players a run out.

Sam had his thigh heavily strapped and was limping on Monday. He's also out of the Exiles game. I recon he's injured.

Jeez, Bilko posted some stats about how many players outside the first 19 have been played this season and it amounts to something like 32 appearances if i recall correctly....... How do we know that the players you want to see play will be available at the pointy end of the season, YOU DON'T!!
Play some squad players and if we lose so be it, money in the bank for me... Get the lads tested!!

Good luck to the lad. I dont know a great deal about him but it's always nice to see a youngster get a chance.
The players yet to play first team I hear great things about are obviously Williams and Hampshire and this winger Burgess seems to be making a real impact. I read on the website he's 6ft 4 and he's meant to be rapid which sounds a very promising mix.
Joe Burgess has a sister who is in my daughters class at school and he was at their sports day today he certainly is a big lad, seems to have bulked up a bit as well from the last time i saw him. never seen him play but like you i have heard good things about him
