Been thinking, if we were picking a Roses match today, who would get in? Assuming you had to be born in the county to play for it, not merely play for a club in it. Here's my picks

Lancashire:

1. Paul Wellens-St Helens (Sam Tomkins was born in Milton Keynes)
2. Josh Charnley-Wigan
3. Darrell Goulding-Wigan
4. Chris Bridge-Warrington
5. Chris Riley-Warrington
6. Kevin Sinfield-Leeds
7. Matty Smith-Salford
8. Paul Clough-St Helens
9. James Roby-St Helens
10. James Graham-St George
11. Gareth Hock-Wigan
12. Danny Tickle-Hull FC
13. Sean O'Loughlin-Wigan & Captain

Replacements: Paul Prescott (Wigan), Liam Farrell (Wigan), Paul Wood (Warrington), Mickey Higham (Warrington)

Yorkshire

1. Leroy Cudjoe-Huddersfield
2. Ryan Hall-Leeds
3. Ryan Atkins-Warrington
4. Kirk Yeaman-Hull FC
5. Tom Briscoe-Hull FC
6. Leon Pryce-Catalans Dragons
7. Danny Brough-Huddersfield Giants
8. Sam Burgess-South Sydney
9. Michael McIlorum-Wigan
10. Gareth Carvell-Warrington
11. Jamie Jones-Buchanan-Leeds
12. Ben Westwood-Warrington
13. Gareth Ellis-Wests & Captain

Replacements: Rob Burrow (Leeds), Ryan Bailey (Leeds), Andy Lynch (Hull FC), Jon Wilkin (St Helens)

And just for fun....

The 'ineligible' team: (club, place of birth)

1. Jimmy Keinhorst (Leeds, Germany)
2. Ade Gardner (St Helens, Barrow in Furness)
3. Josh Griffin (Castleford, Oxford)
4. Rhys Williams (Warrington, Wrexham)
5. Will Sharp (Hull FC, Nigeria)
6. Sam Tomkins (Wigan, Milton Keynes)
7. Ian Henderson (Catalans, Torquay)
8. Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook (St Helens, London)
9. Shaun Lunt (Leeds, Whitehaven)
10. Darrell Griffin (Leeds, Oxford)
11. Kyle Amor (Wakefield, Whitehaven)
12. Lee Mossop (Wigan, Whitehaven)
13. Ben Harrison (Warrington, Barrow in Furness)

Jordan James (Salford, London), Ben Flower (Wigan, Cardiff), Gil Dudson (Wigan, Cardiff)

Very nice but a couple of glaring errors there - Luke Robinson is from Halifax and Adrian Morley is from Salford!

A Yorkshire win with those teams. However I think it shouldn't be where you were born but where you played your first first grade game.

yes, my bad, misremembered Morley, McIlorum and Robinson and forgot to check them. Sorted out now. McIlorum for Yorkshire instead of Houghton, Bailey instead of Morley and Higham as benching hooker for Lancashire.

interesting to note than, from the Yorkshire side, only half the squad actually play in Yorkshire, while for Lancashire only 3 play outside the county.

none of the lancashire side actually plays "in the county of lancashire", and thats the whole issue with this.

If everyone that has started a 'County of Origin' thread on here went to the game, we'd have an Origin series with bigger crowds than the NRL one.

For me it should be east vs west. Players should be able to choose if they want to represent their birth place ie Sinfield playing for west because he's from Oldham or Wilkin play for east because he's from hull. Alternatively players can choose which side to play for depending on where they made their professional debut, ie Sinfield playing for east because he make his debut at Leeds.

The cumbrian players could play for west side and london based players can play for east.

It'll never happen because the fans would never support it because they only care about their own teams. I support RL and then support st Helen's but I'm probably one of the very few people feel the same.
