Meli is one of our better players and we could do a lot worse than retaining him.

He's MIIIIIIIIIILES better than Jordan Turner IMO, for example.

If we go into next season with 2 year deals in the bag for Meli and Wellens, I may sh*t myself out of anger.

I wouldn't mind Meli getting another year...as people have said who is there better out there currently?

I agree, I'd be dismayed by the complete lack of ambition. Meli isn't bad, on a reduced deal, for one season if there are no suitable players available.

Wellens however would be inexcusable. We've got his replacement at the club already in one of Makinson, Swift, Ashe, Lomax, Hohaia or Gaskell. Giving him one year would be stupid, two would be horrific.

He will be incompetent when we most need him to be competent and as a (very) senior player, I find that unforgivable.

I completely agree. I posted at the end of last season that he simply cannot play again in a game of magnitude for us, he will be mercilessly targetted and exposed. He's been directly at fault for at least one try in each of the five Grand Final defeats. We know that when it gets down to the crunch that he will be found wanting. I don't care if there is no-one better available, I would sooner give the game time he has to one of the youngsters who might actually be able to perform in a big game somewhere down the line. Makinson for example has shown more in half a Grand Final than Meli has in the last five.

A bit ranty I know but I'm in a rush. :D

Does the same logic apply to Wellens getting a new deal? He costs us every game by blunting our attack dramatically and seems to cost us in derby matches defensively with alarming regularity now.

If the is nothing available then I'd give Meli another year while looking whaf will be available for 2014 season.

The two wingers I've heard we've spoke to don't exactly thrill me and I'd go with Meli before them.

Meli always gets stick off certain saints fans but he's the only back with and genuine attack.

I personally wouldn't keep Wellens as a player and I can't see Brown wanting him at full-back next year but the same logic doesn't apply at all as you couldn't justify getting rid of Wellens for the same reasons I would get rid of Meli ie attitude, commitment, consistency and performances on the big stage.

All the noises I hear however tend to suggest that both will still be here next year. I'm a bit more understanding in Wellens' case as he would come relatively cheap with the cap dispensation and he has experience and influence that is hard to replace. I'd want him on the coaching staff if that's the way he wants to go post-playing and if that means keeping him as a player on reduced terms for a year then so be it.

But Meli? :FRUSRATED:

If Perry buggers off, we could go for David Williams.
