The next Tory welfare idea.

Another ill thought out idea. What about the (fictional but all too real) 23 year old, single mother whose husband died fighting for his country in Afganistan. Not only does she have to vacate army accomodation (if applicable) but she will get no housing benefit to help her start again, or the 24 year old who is fleeing a violent relationship who is on minimum wage but no family members who they can live with.

The tories are definately losing the plot.

No thats not true because anyone claiming any sort of benefit is scum, scrounger or a drain on society in the tories eyes

I dont see the issue myself.
Just do a U-turn on the tax give-away we gave to certain companies and do another one on the 50p tax bracket.
I mean when they can U-turn on other things what is the problem.

It's just the same old Tories isn't it? They never change. Blame the poor for being poor, traduce them as scroungers and make them poorer.
That's what Thatcher did and that's what this lot are doing. Plus ca change.

What an idiot. Totally missed the point. The majority of HB recepients are in work you numpty! Charlie got it right when he asked if it was just Scaremongering. I like to call it divide and rule, you are supposed to get whipped up into such a frenzy that those nasty, little, benefit scum are taking again from the tax payer that you want, nay demand something be done.

Scumbags the lot of em.

You could take a hammer and chisel and carve it into Cameron's vast forehead and he still wouldn't acknowledge that fact.

A message to the Robinsons and others who had never really experienced life under a tory administration:

We are now getting close to the reality of these evil bastards. This is going to be their message for 2015 or possibly earlier. They have already set the private sector against the public sector on the subject of pensions. They are working hard on setting the working poor against the non-working poor on the subject of benefits. Many are swallowing this propaganda and completely ignoring the fact that the greater portion of the welfare bill is accounted for in the form of state pensions (you know, that thing that those of us old enough, have contributed towards all our working lives) and child allowances. These are universal, non-means tested benefits but it doesn't fit with the tory message to mention these facts.

You and your children will see less and less of any state support in the form of health provision or simply the provision of a safety net, to mitigate a life of penury. This would be bad enough if we had full employment, it is immoral at a time of massive unemployment, where even those lucky enough to have work, still have to rely on state support in the form of Working Tax Credits and Housing Benefits.

They are forcing doctors and policemen to work longer, would you be happy with a 68 year-old performing radical surgery on you? A 65 year-old teaching your kids? A 60 year-old copper coming to your assistance?

We are seeing greater involvement of the private sector in healthcare provision, policing and it is proposed, defence. These people, unlike state employees, will be largely accountable to no one but their shareholders. They are not subject to FoI, so we can't even find out what they are doing. When this extends to national security and defence, we're not far from private militias being ready to do the bidding of their masters. They'll have plenty of recruits, in the form of redundant ex-servicemen and policemen. They'll all need jobs when they've been cut loose and the G4Ss and Blackwaters of this world will be only too ready to offer them employment.

I personally couldn't give a fook because I doubt I've got more than ten years left anyway and I'm probably resilient enough to take whatever this bunch can throw at me. But I do care about what sort of world will be left for my daughter and the children of my friends.

In 2015, vote tory if you must but remember, they are not serving you. They are serving a small elite, whose ranks you have no chance of ever joining, even if you won the Euromillions lottery. That tiny elite group are the only ones who will see ever increasing wealth, the rest of us are worse than the cannon-fodder of WW1. If they ever get hungry, they'll have no problem eating us.

As only a slight aside, I do love Rowan Williams's description of the PM's 'Big Society' as "aspirational waffle".

'Aspirationalism' is merely a version of 'keeping up with the Joneses' turned into something supposedly laudable.
