I agree Cruncher, these days alcohol should be a no no and very limited even in the off season.

Hanley was light years before his time, but I do remember Edwards stating he was not adverse to a couple of pints pre game, especially cup finals, Edwards also had plenty of other vices that i am not sure he could have managed in this era.

Fullbacks and backrowers aren't needed. We have some of the best players in the world in those positions already.

Halfbacks, centre or props.....they're what we could do with!

I agree, quite right. No point in fixing what doesn't need fixing, fix what's broke!

I believe he was (and maybe still is), an outstanding Morris Dancer.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery.......

I will look to the moment, and miraculously, the future will take care of itself.

Would love to think we were making a move for him, but sadly I think Wire or Saints will be the ones tapping him up and unsettling him.

Mic and Clark would be a hell of a hooking rotation for years to come.

Waney's happy with Tomkins so I don't see us being involved in this one.

The more I think about it his most likely destination will be Leeds.

I really hope we are one of the party's interested.

Cas might have denied him at present but ultimately if he wishes to leave, sooner or later they're going to have to bow to that pressure. You can't have a player in your team/squad who doesn't want to be there.

Unfortunately like Jon, I don't feel he'll be heading our way. Shame because we are a little light in the hooking department both at first team and reserve grade.
Wigan vs Leeds finals aggregate score.

Wigan 178 - 64 Leeds

Wigan wins - 6 Leeds wins - 0

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubblegum.

Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

Of course they are entitled to a few drinks. If they are old enough, nobody can legally stop them.

But if they want to be the best athletes they can be, they'd be advised to stay off the hard stuff until the close season - just like Hanley, Edwards, etc.

Being a professional sportsman is a short career. For most it ends around 30 years old. Then you've got the rest of your life to get driunk. Is a bit of self-discipline for 10 years too much to ask for a lad who is earning very good money for doing what he loves 80 minutes a week?

I agree and I have said this for literally decades, usually responded to negatively.

The first players I was aware of adopting this approach were Betts (he was tea-total at the time) and Hanley. I really admired their dedication.

The approach of these players back then was the sort of attention to detail that made Wigan's success all the easier when they faced up to players who acted as if they were still amateurs off the field.

All this "they are only human" stuff ignores what a science fitness is these days.

We regularly introduce drink bans during key parts of the season. The new culture at the club is superb and thats why I cant see Chase being on our radar.

I wouldn't say we are light, we have McM, logan and we have Carberry in the reserves who IMO is better than Logan.
