No, you can install them alongside each other. Each one will probably initially ask if you want to set it as the default browser though.

If you want to carry on trying with IE have you tried Internet Options -> Advanced Tab -> Reset Internet Explorer Settings ? This might not be an available option if you are using an older version.

RAM is soldered to the systemboard and you have to strip the thing down to get at the hard drive or battery.
