Can anyone clarify for me where transfer fees sit in relation to a clubs salary cap?
Are they two separate entities or are they in some way linked?

They aren't salary so don't count towards the cap at all.

There isn't any relation between a transfer fee and salary cap as previously stated.

As stated previously the 2 are not linked toward the salary cap allowance but imo
if we use the example of Fieldens transfer to the club then they are clearly linked in the waste of money catagory!
Not only has the club spent a £450,000 transfer fee on a player that was finished or was clearly well past his best, but we also had him on a mega contract as well.
Hindsight would prove that this deal was upwards of £1,000,000 down the drain and possibly the most expensive transfer & salary flop in RL history

As stated in the previous 3 posts, transfer fees do not count as part of the salary cap.

The complete failure to understand which accounted for 95% of the outrage we heard when Wigan signed Stu Fielden.

If I'd got a pound for every time I saw "how can Wigan afford £450,000 under the salary cap?" I'd still be cruising the world".

So if Wigan paid Castleford a transfer fee of say £350k for Rangi Chase it wouldn't count on the salary cap?

So you mean that it is a salary cap and not a salary plus transfer fee cap?

As stated in many of the posts above, transfer fees do not count towards the salary cap.
