Not so sure now. The better players there don't have long left in them now IMO, only maybe Kaufusi. Dixon and Caro look interesting. A few years back I thought Melling was going to become a cracking player at fullback, but looks pretty ordinary now IMO.

Have to say I'm not exactly inspired by any of the names we seem to be realistically linked with ATM. And yes, I do realise that talent is in short supply and it was always going to be a long job sorting out the squad. I had hoped for a bit more progress next season than now seems likely though. Ho hum.
TBH I think this is the root problem with the negativity about our recruitment on here. When people mention good players it is quickly dismissed as unrealistic, but suggest s**t ones and it's practically being accepted as fact as an assumption that we'll be the best/(only?) option for them.
I think we must be the only set of fans who would have some unhappy with recruitment/retention when we so far have only one confirmed departure, have captured the number 1 hottest property on the market, and a 20-year-old on the fringes of the England squad. We've been though 4 seasons of dour, depressing, unambitious rugby, and we've finally seen some progress this year. People need to be prepared to wait for more (which will come), and not start throwing their toys out of the pram just because we might not catch everyone up in the space of 18 months after putting ourselves years behind under the last regime.
(To be clear, I'm not saying you fall into the latter category. I quoted your post because I think the realistically comment is the key. Too many seem to be making the jump from something being believable, to it true. If we sign every realistic target we've been linked with now, we'll break the combined salary cap for the entire league.)

Gower no but Robertson would, and only signed a one year deal with London.
I'm still personally not keen on signing wingers over 28. Retaining I don't mind (got to have some loyalty/faith), but bringing in, no. Along with prop it seems to be the position with the shortest timeframe between 'top of his game' to 'damaging his reputation', and it can happen any time from about 30, which he'll be next April. He'd need to be better than he is to justify the risk IMO, I'd sooner we look elsewhere.

I'd tend to agree but looking at next season we have massive gaps made up from our short comings at junior level.
Robertson would 'cover' fb and wing better than Lyne who can't be rated by the coaching staff.
In all honesty I'd be tempted not to sign anymore overseas players because we struggle to find continuity with them (the same could be said with players from lancashire), I'd take a hit and spend transfer fees on British players.

I said after on Saturday I expect Holdsworth to be our new half, once I'd read about Finch going home. Good player, underrated my only issue is we could have done with more pace.
Seymour won't leave but we need back up so wouldn't be surprised to see a young NRL player come in.
Keep getting told Kearney but hope not, I don't rate him. Fairly average. Plus that would mean Horne is off or retiring which I doubt.
