Talking to a very close friend of our coach yesterday, I was told we were doing everything possible to get Chase. Also, I know he has mentioned wanting to go home as reason for rejecting Hull's contract, but I was told we had gone for Sam Moa and things were looking positive in that regard.

Clark would be the player id like us to pursue to partner McIllorum.

I imagine Burgess will go to Souths, Thornley, Gelling & Goulding will be our centres going forward.

Id love us to sign someone like Soward to replace Finch, but its in all likelihood not going to happen, Id much rather us throw some money at Saints for Gaskell than go anywhere near Chase, who doesnt have the temperament or team ethic to fit into our systems and I worry about the damage a signing like Chase could do.

I'd take Sarginson as cover for the backs and possibly a replacement for SOL in 4/5 years time. Could be a cracking 13.

I think Craig Kopczak could be quite an astute signing, he's progressed massively the last 18 months at Bradford and in our set up I think he'd make another step up. I rate him better than Tom Burgess although he's a few years older than him.

It's certainly risky to go for Chase given that his current form is wildly inconsistent and he hasn't really been playing as part of a structured attacking system.

I do think Chase is a very talented player, but his inconsistencies during games would make me think twice given that he's almost certainly going to cost a lot.

The current Wigan system works very well using two halfbacks as traditional playmakers, with both occasionally running with the ball when they get the chance. I'd say that favours a combination of Powell and Smith more than a combination of Chase and Smith; but the latter would certainly be much better on paper.

There's a lot of guesswork involved obviously, but I'd say Chase would be a bigger 'project' than Smith would be.

Sarginson would be a very good signing although I wouldn't make too much of his versatility. His attacking play is sublime for a young player but his defence when playing at centre was absolutely appalling.

If the club did manage to sign him and intended to play him as a halfback long term I'd be worried about using him as a stand in centre. Consistency is usually what improves the defence of a young centre I'd guess that it's unlikely that he'd get that.

Stand off and fullback seem like Sarginson's best positions from what I've seen.

I have heard Logan Tomkins to Saints mentioned a few times. Is he OOC?

Haven't really seen anything sparkling from Logan Tomkins so I can't see why Saints would be interested in him. Especially with Roby & Hohaia

He's 19 and playing first grade rugby. That's sparkling in itself.

Why would Logan leave unless Saints are chucking a lot of money at him? If they are chucking money at a 19 year old called Tomkins someone needs to tell them they are about 3 years too late!!!
