As I posted in the "Brett Finch to return home" thread. I'd be having an almighty push at trying to tempt Daryl Clark over from Cas. Let's spend some cash that we supposedly got some for Joel and have a try. Because that kid is gonna be an absolute superstar.
Wigan vs Leeds finals aggregate score.

Wigan 178 - 64 Leeds

Wigan wins - 6 Leeds wins - 0

I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass, and I am all out of bubblegum.

Don't you struggle. Don't you fight. Don't you worry, cause it's your turn tonight!

That's not a bad squad with only one new signing being made. If the club don't expect to bring in two new halfbacks then Powell (when fit) and Mellor (who will have to be brought back from loan) will need some time in the first team to see how they cope otherwise it's a big risk. It's still not too bad though.

Its a seriously weaker squad than this year.

Finch, Tommy, Lima and Carmont are simply the cream of the crop. They are probably four of the best players in SL and arguably the best players in their respective positions.

You simply can't lose that type of quality and have no like for like recruitment.

We need at least one marque signing for next year.

It's a step down by a large degree in every position you highlight with far too much experience and skill out of the door to be replaced by untried young players (4 and 6) or pretty average squad players (7 and 14). The rest of the league will be vary happy if that is the way we line up next year.

Whilst I agree its a step down in most of the positions I don't see why you always feel the need to constantly pick out Lauaki as a basis for criticism?

I honestly can't believe anyone would pick O'carroll over him which is what I've seen you write in the past.

What do you think he offers over Eric? He's not big enough for prop, he's not got any handling skills and has one of the worst injury records in SL

What's with the constant criticism of Lauaki? He's done better than Dudson & Flower yet you don't dismiss either of them as average squad players?

While the team is indeed a big step down that team should still be more than capable of finishing in the top 4. That's a team that includes the only player (Smith) who is strongly linked with signing and obviously I would expect the club to make more signings but we're not in a terrible position despite losing four of our best players.

We're not in a great position, but it's no reason to panic, particularly when it comes to signings. Quite a few people seem to want Lenegan to open his cheque book and start making massive offers for players who are currently under contract which is a ridiculous way to run a club.

At this moment in time Wigan need to be mindful of the quality players that are being lost but sensible when it comes to signing replacements.

When has our recruitment for one year ever been finished by June the previous year? I thought the signings of Hoffman, Lima and Finch were pretty early and they were mid-July IIRC.

Little mention in the Aussie Telegraph re Soward

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 6390021465

"With Ben Hornby also set to retire next year, the Dragons could be left without a half as Jamie Soward is being linked to rugby union and the English Super League.

Soward's manager last night dismissed a report claiming Soward had received an offer from Wigan and hinted his future was with the Dragons.

"If Wigan want to make us an offer then they are more than welcome," Soward's manager Sam Ayoub said.

"I met with Craig Young (Dragons football manager) during the week and he is very happy with where Jamie is at.

"He is developing as a leader and improving areas of his game.

"I see know reason why he won't be there beyond his current deal."
