On the spherical ball game. : Sun Dec 16, 2018 4:33 pm
DB is of the opinion the sale of Hull City AFC has stalled because of the potential development of the stadium and site. This could impact on us. Are we viewed as a drag anchor to the sale? Or is it about having to pay the Allams 10’s of millions and then havto pay 10’s of millions to buy the ground and surrounding area?

Hull city have no value whatsoever so anyone buying them will be looking for a deal on the stadium, assuming they have the cash

Not true.
They are more likely to be looking for a deal on the surrounding land.

You said the stadium Jake thats why i said not true.
The stadium itself to a potential buyer is not really important. Its asset value given its age and ongoing maintainance costs is probably in the land its built on and that cant be realised for many years given the current long term leases.
What is important as i said would be the ability to purchase some of the adjoining land for development and the council are willing to discuss this with any potential buyer of Hull City.

Is Hodgson the new Griffin, or is it all about pace?

Deputy city council leader Daren Hale wrote:
If someone did come forward, as stadium owners we would want assurances about Hull FC’s future in any deal because it was built for both football and rugby and we do meet Adam Pearson on a regular basis to discuss the club’s position.
“As we own the freehold asset, I would expect that if someone is interested in buying the club and re-developing some of the surrounding land they would come and see us but so far nobody has.

I meant the stadium complex which is where they could start to look at non football revenue streams. Anyone buying the club would be looking for ownership of the stadium itself so they could develop it as they want to . I don't know of many PL and EFL clubs who play in a rented stadiums so the model is clearly ownership of your stadium and as much land as you can get. Running & maintenence costs are minimal compared to income levels in the PL and top of the championship

Of the current 20 teams in the PL only 14 own their own grounds. Clubs that don't include Man City, West Ham and Newcastle. Both Hull City and Swansea City who play in Hull this weekend have council owned grounds.

Interesting. I don't really follow football so didn't know there were so many but I guess the main difference is that the bulk of these are single use stadia (huddersfield being the exception) so the football club have full control which isn't the model in Hull. Any owner of city with ambitions would want the ability to increase the size of the stadium and decide who else plays there
