Id assume it will be one of those where it looks like we will put out a decent team and then last minute find out its pretty much the reserves. Although dressed up as playing for a cup its just going to be glorified pre season friendlies.

I can never get excited about friendlies. Sure, they're a necessary part of the pre-season but, at the end of the day, they're games played in the middle of winter with nothing at stake. Hundreds of substitutions ensure that they're a poor spectacle. Nobody says, "remember that fantastic friendly we went to in 1976* ?"

*Substitute own year of preference.

To me it's just about providing an income this time of year. It might be me but close season has been very quiet. Have we any idea how season ticket sales have gone . No feedback and despite the excellent squad additions no real buzz about the place . I did always enjoy an xmas bit of fresh air watching a friendly , great excuse to escape the relations and in laws for a few hours, then you can go back and just about stick it out for another year !! Ha !

Well.. there's been some great signings, Fax have said season ticket sales are up on last year, Jan 6th we're at Odslum v the bullies, a new range of Fax clothing out with the home/away shirts, a Christmas party for everyone at The Old Post Office and a Fax forum down at The Shay tonight. I'm not sure what more you could want?

Re: 2019 Friendlies : Thu Dec 13, 2018 7:55 pm
We've had the best pre-season recruitment for many a year, although sadly I'm not going to see many live games next season due to relocating a couple of hundred miles away. The Yorkshire Cup isn't a bad concept in itself, and should give a bit more meaning to winning the games, so long as the coaches treat them as competitive games. Are we adhering to the usual competition rules on interchanges for instance?

What I don't get is the pricing structure for the tickets. £13 for an adult ticket is fine, given you can take in two games if you want, but £39 for 4 day tickets, the first two on consecutive days where "your" team won't be playing on one of them. Followed by two further days at unknown grounds with unknown teams. All in a month when the weather could wreak havoc with the games! What I've not seen is if buying tickets early is at a discount to pay on the day?

I'm feeling good about next season for Fax, albeit we need our incoming players to gel with the team and largely stay injury free if we're to compete for the top 5 places.

Clubs are knee deep in cash at this time of year.

If they aren't, there's something wrong with their season ticket marketing plan.

Good point - what if the weather's bad ? Once you have a competition, there's an implied commitment to play the games. You can't just cancel them and give it a miss.

"No real buzz about the place"!

Are you cut off on a desert island or something? I haven't known such an excited and optimistic pre-season for a good many years. I am the Membership Director for Fax1 and I am getting new members joining nearly every day as they can feel that the club is on the up both on and off the field. My 2 co-directors are running round like blue-a**ed flies pulling in new corporate sponsors etc. We have produced car stickers, pocket fixture lists and, as soon as a new 2019 Team Photo is available, a large fixture list for shops, chippies etc. all paid for by sponsors who have bought advertising space.

On top of all that we all came away from last nights Fax Forum feeling very positive about the coming season.

I can never work out if you are trolling or not.

On the season ticket sales thing, Im glad the club have not come out with season ticket sales because every year we hear that season ticket sales are up, and its the same at every club, yet it doesn't take rocket science to work out that this is not the case.

Just seen the squad numbers announced and we look to have a really, really strong squad. This year has the makings of a really good season for us.
