Player recruitment 2019 : Mon Aug 27, 2018 10:01 am
Huddersfield have signed Tom Holmes for 2019. I wonder if any half backs might be available from the Giants?

Holmes did his ACL at the Bash so is unlikely to actually be playing for a while.

Yes, we know. That's why the thread title refers to the year 2019. He couldn't play for Shudderfield this season anyway even if he wasn't injured.

I was thinking long term rather than for a few matches this year. Especially since no further signings allowed for 2018.
A good keen young lad of almost SL standard to learn alongside Muzza and interchange with him when appropriate would be my ideal.

Really need 2 half backs for me. Great as Muzza is, he is no spring chicken now and need to find someone to replace him gradually. The absolute must is a scrum half that can pass a ball, and can take us around the park with a long kicking game.

If I remember rightly, one of Muzza's best games for Fax was when he played hooker - I think it was against Fev in the 2016 Summer Bash when we beat them 37-0. After all, he did play in the forwards at Hull KR did he not? Love Muzza, he's a great character, a great captain and still has some craft. A 3rd hooker for me. With Kaye at loose but alternating hooker with Muz and Moore off bench - a 3 pronged hooker attack like the old Penky/Gleeson/Beswick (who started loose) days. Sweet! :)

I doubt he'll be playing much for Huddersfield until well into the 2019 season.

Muzza is not even the same league as Penky/Gleeson/Beswick .

As a player you're right, but as a leader on and off the field you'll find him hard to beat. What we need is a playmaker to take his place on the field, but make sure that he has a position in the coaching staff going forward as he's (imo) unrivalled in his ability to gel a team. We keep on hearing about the fantastic team spirit that Fax have, and where do you think that comes from?

From a recruitment perspective, we miss someone like Martin Hall. He's an unsung hero from the time that we had Penky, Gleeson, Beswick and others on board. Without him, we'd never have managed to get players of their calibre on board.

It might be worth mentioning that Martin Hall had a 600k budget to play with also. So maybe not so difficult with that much money. No doubt he could spot a player being a superb ex-pro player. For me Muzza has been well worth his money and you are right that we need to find a similar type of player.
