World Cup 2021 : Tue Jul 17, 2018 7:04 am
Some intial details released, all games to be staged in England due to the funding deal with the government, who are providing £25M.

80% of games to be up North, with a focus in staging games in Cities not towns, minimum capacity of grounds to be 12k.

40 grounds have put a bid in and Middlesbrough has expressed an interested in staging games, and London will host at least one, but expected NOT to start with England - Australia for once.

So much good news that I think I need a lie down!

The riverside stadium has a capacity in excess of 40,000. Its going to look daft on "Dave" or whichever other tin pot broadcaster show the highlights when Lebanon play Jamaica in front of 600 people.

We should use smaller stadiums

The OP states minimum stadia capacity of 12k, I would say Mr Dutton has already made plans for that possible scenario.

I agree with lebron I’d be surprised if there’s an attendance over 12.000 apart from 1 or 2 matches so a 40,000 seater stadium is a joke one things for sure it will be an Australia v England / New Zealand final again as always there’s nothing more predictable than a RL World Cup

With the addition of the not only the men's event but also the women's and wheelchair competition's its certainly set to be one of the best WC's. With plenty of marketing opportunities available.

I personally think they have set off on the right footing for this event and nice website https://www.rlwc2021.com

It's good that we are starting early and getting the word out there.

Last time, we did well hosting a good tournement but we didn't manage to get a sponsor and it seemed like it was all very hush-hush until about a year before.

We are doing the right thing, get the word out now. Get 25000 in the Riverside. Get into schools in the area and get tickets bought every term for the next three years to families and kids, make it feel like - if you haven't got one you're missing out!

I personally have no problem at all with free tickets. I think this should be utilised more often in none heartland areas

Kinda boring just having it in the heartlands.

Said it last time the world cup was here and saying it again why not take SL games on the road. Go to Bristol, go to the East Midlands, go to the Southwest, go to London.

Sounds like now they have just given up on actually hosting a world cup which could engage people from all over the country.

Are Newcastle going to get a game? Probably not so why is Magic Weekend held there every year?

except maybe a RU one, there have been 4 RL nations from a relatively limited number of WC competitors, contrast that to the RU world cup and there have only been 5 nations to make the final from vastly more competing countries. Basically you're full of it :ASS: ! :SUBMISSION:
