The power struggle : Tue Jun 12, 2018 8:47 pm
Looks to be still going on in the corridors of power, Sooner or later S league will effectively control what matters in the finances of RL, reading some of the stuff out there at the moment it looks as though the three Eights are to go again.

All sorts of statements coming out from various chairmen, The ones coming from Wigan seem to be the one's that count and they are saying that the effort is going to be put more into SL and less into the Championship in future.

Minimum standards are to come back, with probably 1 up 1 down if the up comers can meet the requirements, The general feeling seems to be that the clubs below SL will be left to raise their own revnue after the present Sky contract runs out.

Huddersfield Giants - "We know our place"

Re: The power struggle : Wed Jun 13, 2018 10:02 am
The game is in a terrific mess at the moment. There’s been a lot of drift in the last few years and the whole 8s system has been extremely damaging.

The best thing for the Giants to do is batten down the hatches and focus on sorting the club out. Easier said than done, but it will be easier to ride out the RFL/SLE chaos at the top of the table than at the bottom. Easier still if you’re at the top and pulling decent crowds.

Whenever you see the fanciful grand designs put forward periodically they always call for “big city clubs” to appear out of nowhere to replace the small town clubs that are supposedly holding the game back. But for some reason the small towns they list as the problem never include St Helens or Wigan eh?

If the club is in the top 4 and pulling a good crowd in, then it’s bullet proof. That’s all we should care about as a club.

That's a big IF.

Easier said than done as we've seen since 2013!

That's the reality of it, Mr Davy and the stadium will more than likely be our saviour again but the likes of Wakey with their ground will be forced to deliver because by the way things are being said the men with the power are not going to be the pushover incompetent lot the RFL have been.

Something had to happen sooner or later, the SL clubs can barely earn enough to support themselves let alone the whole of R league, It may well see the end of some clubs other than as amateur, At the end of the day it's every club for it's self and if i had put in millions that's probably how i would be thinking.

Seems to me things have been decided without the RFL, Not over yet but SL appear to be holding all the aces, They are the only thing Sky are bothered about, without them there is effectively no game to talk about.
