Massive credit to the Widnes fans that made the trip over and I hope they all got back over the hill safely.
The weather was unbelievable and with ungritted roads in the area around Belle Vue, getting away was certainly "fun".

It was without doubt, the worst weather that I've seen at a rugby league game in the last 40 years.

THe Trinity fans stayed for a while singing in the snow, it was all quite surreal.

I quite enjoyed it though I hope it's another forty years before it happened again.

Sad really because it was playable at 5-30 and by 7-30 it had totally died down again.

It was a judgement call and some times you win sometimes you lose

I was covering the game. Like you say, when I got there at 5pm there was a little snow on the pitch and everything was fine. Then the first flurry covered the pitch a little more but a great effort to clear the lines. Rather than just abandoning the game, if they had let the snow stop. Wait 20 minutes, clear the lines again then I don't see any reason why the game couldn't have been completed.

Not sure it was really playable after that 20 minute blizzard, it was no longer just a covering. I think on balance player safety would have been severely compromised, but yes it may have been possible.

However I don't think anyone would have guessed that at the point it was abandoned. Shame because both teams looked up for it.

I was impressed by the turn of pace of both benches on the referees whistle to stop the game
