Nigel Wood to step down : Wed Dec 13, 2017 9:42 pm
http://uk.blastingnews.com/sport/2017/12/nigel-wood-to-depart-in-sweeping-change-of-super-leagues-board-002230305.html

According to this story, Wood to step down as Superleague CEO and takes up a post as chief exec of RLIF. Club representatives to take his place on the SL Board. All very vague at this stage.

Leeds, Widnes and Salford voted against the change! The problem is that the new board are tied into poor deals, including Sky TV rights!

He gets a lot of flack, but does anyone properly know what his role entails and what he has/hasn't done? I don't. All I've seen is people jealous of his salary and cracking fat jokes.

I doubt his weight is the reason the club chairmen have opted to vote him out. They're a lot closer to the action than we are, and they are clearly sick of the guy.

As for his salary ... I wouldn't say it was jealousy as much as utter frustration that while he was clearly great at getting money into his own bank account, he didn't seem to be much good at getting it into the game.

Ultimately, that article gives plenty reasons why the British domestic game is on a downer at present. It is natural law that the CEO on whose watch this happened should take the rap.

That's a pretty big gap that will need filling.

I'll get my coat.

I believe he was heavily involved in not putting the TV rights out to tender and for that I don't think certain chairmen including IL have ever forgiven him.

Yeah that was poor. If I remember correctly, didn't IL say he voted for it then felt different the next day once he had slept on it? I'm not sticking up for Wood btw I just genuinely don't know enough about his role and performance within it to say whether he is doing well or not

I wonder if details of any severance package will be published.

Re: Nigel Wood to step down : Thu Dec 21, 2017 1:56 pm
Wood will be taking a massive severance and will also be joined by Roger Draper and Ralph Rimmer.

All 3 are responsible for bringing the governing body to its knees. Staff are currently fleeing like rats leaving a sinking ship good people who are joining rival codes. It is an absolute disgrace.

If the governing body survives it will be as a much smaller organisation.

The only way to move forward in my opinion is an intervention by the owners.
