Toulouse v Toronto To Open Magic Weekend : Tue Dec 12, 2017 6:06 pm
I find this announcement a little alarming in truth. Whilst it will probably be a good match is it another show of the RFL that they simply disregard any league lower than Super League? The only reason they have done this is because they probably want rid of Wakefield and Huddersfield and want Toulouse and Toronto in there. I say Wakefield and Hudds purely for the fan base argument but its a clear attempt to promote (so to speak) these two continental sides. It's a little bit bias to push these two clubs onto the main stage when there are perfectly good derbies in the Championship that could have been promoted.

I remember one year at Murryfield staying until the last game to watch some of Saints vs HKR after we’d played Huddersfield IIRC. Hard to say which of those was the main game!

I prefer us being in that middle game (we’ll its now the third game if Four). The crowds tend to peak in those games with a lot of fans going early from the end of that game onwards.

Some might look at this as being harsh but I think it's fair. When are the Rugby League going to stop persisting with this fantasy expansion. If it hasn't worked by now, it never will! I'm all for reaching out to a wider audience with our game but not at the expense of historical clubs in the homelands.

No, it's happening because Toronto are having work done on their home ground so it will be unavailable that weekend, it's difficult to get flights from Toulouse to Canada and both teams will be in the UK the following week anyway for the Summer Bash. And if you think anyone outside of Batley and Dewsbury wants to see Batley v Dewsbury then you're kidding yourself.

Oh it could easily be one of those to, it was just an example. The uncertainty with Wakey and a new ground will always cast a shadow over them though. Something needs to be done fast and i hope Carter hasn't bitten off his nose to spite his face. FWIW i think Wakey are an asset to the league. They are the Bolton Wanderer of SL. Never too far away from a dog fight but at the same time very capable of a good season. They are certainly riding the crest of a wave at the moment and now have arguably the best pack in the league but the stadium holds them back. For me, that is why they will never be taken seriously as contenders and stops them getting to the next level even though they are capable of it. Salford will certainly finish in the bottom 4 next season but i don't think they will go down whilst they still have players like Lui and Sa'u but they could do. If i was a Salford fan i would be more worried about being able to finish the season, absolutely destined to go out of business within a couple of years. Widnes look doomed already, Totonto, Toulouse and Leigh will be snapping at their heels. The middle 8's will look extremely competitive with Leigh, Toronto, Toulouse and London pretty much nailed on for the 4 spots.

Somebody needs to ask why the event is making a loss annually!
