Ah right. I'll have to figure out how to reference that properly on Wikipedia. Slightly different than my uni referencing haha! But yeah I don't mind, it will take time though But I don't mind having this as a side project for the season

Great. I'll post the stats on the board. It can be a useful discussion thread too as all sorts comes up when you start to research them.

Anyway, that book doesn't have an ISBN. It was a very small print run in 1989. Nigel himself still holds copyright, so I'm not re-producing any of it anywhere. It is however a base point for ongoing stats.

There is a gap in the on-line stuff, at least, I haven't been able to fill it.

There are different ways of working too. Nigel never included 'friendly' games in his appearances whilst others, (particularly lately) seem to do. Nigel always considered 'substitute' or appearances from the bench, as a separate column in his lists, whist the more modern practice seems to be to include the full 17 as 'appearances'. With the older players you have to be careful about 3 and 4 point tries too, not to mention 2 point drop goals. all in all it is extremely difficult to compare older lists with the newer ones.

Thankfully Nigel's book is very clear in the stats and takes into account the changes in points for tries and drop goals over the years.

He includes friendlies in his records of games played but they don't count as first class games.

The point about sub appearances is worth bearing in mind. Before thd game went 17 a side subs were seen as less important. That's changed a fair bit now.

To be fair, on Wikipedia we include League, Cup, Playoff and WCC games. No friendlies. And the subs are integrated with appearances and not as a separate column as you say they are fairly important these days and give as much to the game as the starting 13.
