£20 a ticket and £15 on beer and merchandise.....so an away fan is worth £35. At best, 1,000 is the average away support split across 11 rounds and I am being really generous here, so Toronto, replacing say Wakefield will cost a SL club £35,000.
The minimum turnover of a SL club is £4,000,000 so Toronto instead of Widnes is worth less than 1% of a SL clubs turnover.

There are many valid reasons for and against expansion into America, but "AWAY FANS" isn't one of them. :BEAT:

It's not often we get praise (even if this is from our very own DW) on the National Broadcasters website, but this was a great read to wake up to this morning here in NZ.....and I 100% agree with his sentiment!

Rugby league must be the only professional sport with a World Cup where players don’t play because they can’t afford to. Utter embarrassment

Players should definitely being paid a fare wage. At the bare minimum the NRL should have paid all expenses for players who couldn't afford to play.

I know the RFU pay all costs for the smaller nations that travel to play England at Twickenham.

...that's big of them, given they'll bank £7,000,000 on the gate when they play Samoa in a couple of weeks and that's before a glass of champers has been quaffed.

They are reluctant to pay what they pay as the don't see themselves as the World Rugby union just another competing country. Which is reasonable.

The RFU have just cancelled the payments(salaries) to its England womens team. Sorry CMG/GF I wont mention the 'whole other sport' again. ;)

Samoa rugby union just announced it is bankrupt, The RFU are doing this to save face.

I could be wrong but I got the impression from the RFU guy that they always cover the costs for teams like Samoa. On the one hand it's good to support the smaller nations, but equally they're charging people a lot of money to go and watch England at Twickenham. Would those people be happy knowing that some of their money is being given away to other nations and not being used to support rugby in England? I'm sure there are plenty of rugby clubs in England that need money to improve their facilities and equipment. It's a difficult balance keeping everyone happy. I would prefer that World Rugby dealt with these issues rather than it being the duty of England RU. Anyway, this is a RL forum. :)

Back on topic, the players all receive £30 daily allowance, but it’s not like they have to live off this, they will have all their accommodation and meals provided. I don’t see the problem with this, we’re not a big money sport and can’t be paying out big money, the 2000 World Cup nearly bankrupt the sport.

They will also receive match payments and prize money depending on how they do. The problem I do have is Austrailia, New Zealand and England getting more from this than tier 2 Nations.
