Davies and Marshall : Tue Apr 18, 2017 2:18 pm
What happens to them when Burgess, Tierney and Manfredi are fit?

Yesterday,
Marshall 134 metres, 6 tackle busts and 3 clean breaks.
Davies 158 meters, 3 tackle busts and 1 clean break.

Can we keep all five, they will all want to play top level rugby (and deserve to)? Very difficult decision for the coaching/management staff.

Maybe look at converting one of them to centre, it's definitely the weak spot in the squad numbers wise.

In the short term it isn't a problem. Medium term Joe Burgess to centre. Manfredi wont be fit until next year. We need cover at full back because Sam will play scrum half. So yes we keep them all.

Marshall is the priority of the none established lads. Tierney has improved massively but can't see him being happy with a second fiddle roll which he will always we at Wigan.

Davies is also one that on current form looks to be behind Marshall. Hopefully both however will remain patient and we can see how Don is on his return.

I think it is highly likely Burgess will have another crack at the NRL maybe Manfreddi too IF he comes back to the form he was in pre injury.

My long term concerns if we were to have both Davies and Marshall on the flanks is the lack of size particularly height on both sides.

For me, Burgess, Manfreddi and Marshall have to be the lads we keep happy.

Where do u get the Sam will play scrum half from? I just can't see it!

I'd say Tierney would be the one to move on if we need to make cap space but he'd have every right to feel badly done to.

I sort of think he will play in the halves a bit. Escare left Catalans because he couldnt get a game ahead of Gigot. I doubt he would sign a 3 year deal at Wigan unless he was under the impression that he would be playing regularly.

Does anyone know hoe long Marshalls contract is? I know he played reserves last year but I wasnt sure how long he had signed for. He's been great so far, particularly under the high ball, and evading the oncoming defenders when catching the high balls.

Marshall is the better than Davies imo but both look good, short term wise the back line should look like this imo

Escare
Marshall
Burgess
Gelling
Tierney

Davies is a good player and will get plenty of opportunities but Tierney offers better go foward imo, he also does a lot of scooting from dummy half which helps.

Against Catalan I'd go

Escare
Marshall
Burgess
Forsyth
Tierney

The difference is Davies hasn't dropped a single high kick that I can remember whereas Tierney doesn't fill me with confidence when the bomb goes up. He's improved an awful lot from when he first came in though.

Davies has made great meters forward since he came in and had defended very well. I think I'd pick him ahead of Tierney if he keeps his form.

Marshall and Davies are playing well enough to keep their place in the team. They should stay there until there is an injury or drop in form. Dom won't be back for quite while anyway and Burgess will stay in the centre whilst Gildart is out.

To be fair, surely Marshall looks better than Davies because he's seen a hell of a lot more ball?

Both have been good, and Davies saved our bacon with that great bit of defending, and the pace to win a penalty, which led to a Wigan score.

On current form I don't think I'd drop either to play Tierney.
