Here is my report. I was stationed at the very top of one of the stands and I have not seen the T.V. pictures ,but I shall do my best.
The match started 7.45 minutes late.We fielded the Wigan kick off ,but Casty lost possession on the fifth tackle .They kicked through and I thought that it was an easy pick up for Gigot or Albert, but somehow Wigan got the ball and scored. There was then about 10 minutes of even play with Stewart at the forefront for us.They then scored 5 tries, and missed 2 good chances. In essence they were putting the ball behind Duport and Sigismau in their own half and running on to the ball. They also realised that Gigot was injured-his exaggerated limp and Gallic shrug were useful guidesWe came back with a good try .At half time I honestly feared the we would suffer the worst ever super league defeat. The second half was more of the same as one of their player ran straight through Sigismeau at the half way line.An excellent reply from Horo was followed by a kick along the ground to Gigot ,who for whatever reason tried-in vain-to trap it with his foot.Up to that point this was our worst display of the season, but we then went from the ridiculous to the sublime
Albert went to full back and ,I think,Aiton to half back and everything changed.A brilliant move down the left saw Duport to my amazement pass to Sigismeau and 3 brilliant inside passes saw us over the line.We absolutely dominated the last 15 minutes-I do not buy the view that Wigan went off the boil, they simply never got the ball.We added 2 more tries from Myler and Sigismeau . So I was left thinking why if our players can do this they usually fail to. Albert is the solution to the full back problem. Finally I say sorry to Sigismeau and will refrain from saying what I thought of Gigot. See you next year
