Haha yeah looks like Gigot has put a bit of size on tho. Firm believer that you pick your full back on his positioning/attacking process/safety under the high ball and the defence comes after that. Most of the time your full back can do nothing when players break the line.

It's an attacking position first and foremost in the modern game.

Indeed. Look at Tomkins. Biggest weakness is his defence and he is regarded as one of the full backs in the world by a lot of people.

Re: 2016 Planning : Fri Jan 15, 2016 11:13 am
Are you trying to wind me up? Defence is the crucial element in winning Rugby League matches and if you have a full back ,who cannot catch the high ball or tackle anybody you will concede more tries than you should . It is not automatic with other teams that if their line is broken a try follows. Our coach knows this very well and may well be moving towards the replacement of Escare ,a man who simply cannot defend. What is needed is that fans study videos of every game last year and produce an Escare Audit.I honestly think that if he had been cast aside we would have been in the top 4. N.B. I attended every game in England -not a pleasant experience- and would note that in the one game where we defended well Escare had been dropped and replaced by Robin.
I concede that if one prefers entertainment to winning my views are irrelevant and perhaps even obnoxious.

I agree he is a fair weather player and isn't the best in the rain but he can defend? and he can catch the ball? If you are talking about that Salford game where he was dropped and Gigot played there, that was one of the worst performances I have seen from the Dragons. I think you are quite biased against Escare. Gigot is not an upgrade defensively. Yes I agree that when teams make a break it isn't an automatic try but apart from Hardaker (who is an exceptional defensive full back) all the other full backs in the league are the same as Escare defensively.

Some might look at this as being harsh but I think it's fair. When are the Rugby League going to stop persisting with this fantasy expansion. If it hasn't worked by now, it never will! I'm all for reaching out to a wider audience with our game but not at the expense of historical clubs in the homelands.

Maybe Escare wouldn't have had to do so much defending if the likes of Dureau and Henderson hadn't been missing tackles and conceding penalties left and right.

As I said Escare was dropped and replaced by Robin in the relevant game . I do accept that Gigot was every bit as bad in the Salford game. I am not intrinsically prejudiced against Escare ,but I do think that there is overwhelming empirical evidence that he will never learn how do defend. Other French backs-Stacul,Vaccari,Cardace ,andPala who were afflicted with the same faer of the high ball and who could not tackle -have been given the chop.Gigot now has the No.1 shirt and I fully expect him to perform better than Escare.I am very glad that the club has at last bit this bullet. P.S. As I keep on saying ,don't take my word on this.Watch the videos with a focus on tries unnecessarily conceded.
