I've been telling you for 3 years it will be WA and Brisbane2. We just need confirmation now and that will come once the $'s from the new deal are in the bank.

I'v been telling everyone!

I'll tell you something else... Many people say we will be a drain on players if we come in, well in just 3 years, and on a shoestring budget, we have totally transformed the Jnr set up in Perth with double the number of kids now playing the game and 9 of our Jnrs now playing Toyota cup, 4 playing 1stgrade NRL and 1 in SL. Within a few years the WA Reds will have plenty of home grown players. NIB is undergoing a $92mill rebuild, we have a 7 figure sponsor lined up, we add value to the TV deal with new live time slot options and a new capital city rating addition, we will avg 16-18000 crowds from day one, we put the N into NRL. Come on ARLC stop procrastinating and just give us the nod so we can get going!

Re: WA Bid sorted : Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:35 am
Jamie agrees with me!
Jamie Lyon roars in favour of WA bid

MANLY premiership captain Jamie Lyon is the latest high-profile rugby league figure to back Perth's bid for an NRL franchise.

WA league fans have been spoilt following the NRL's decision to host the second instalment of the highly anticipated 2011 grand final rematch between the Sea Eagles and Warriors at Patersons Stadium on July 28.

The Perth league fixture, anchored by the WARL board, has the total backing of the NRL committee as it moves forward with plans for a WA franchise.

Lyon, who led the Sea Eagles to the 2011 NRL premiership, supports both the national and WARL boards for pencilling in a Perth league fixture, praising the idea of WA entering the national competition.

"We need to expand it and go national," Lyon said. "And I think it will definitely be done a lot better than it was last time with the Western Reds. The game definitely needs a team over in Perth I'd love to see that."

Re: WA Bid sorted : Sun Jun 24, 2012 10:36 am
Why the WARL owning the NRL franchise is so important:

Junior program helps NRL bid

John Sackson. Pic: WA News

The WA Rugby League will use the success of local players at National Rugby League clubs as a key element in the bid for a franchise in an expanded NRL competition.

The WARL believes its pathway for aspiring young players is showing results.

Eight youngsters have signed for NRL clubs' Toyota Cup development teams since the WARL set up the Reds under-18 SG Ball national competition side three years ago. A ninth was drafted from the WA under-18 squad.

Six players who started their careers in Perth have also gone on to become NRL players.

WARL chief executive John Sackson said junior development was a pillar of the expansion bid.

"One of the main jobs of the WARL is the development of the game at junior level," he said.

"That is the future of the game and we have the infrastructure in place.

"There is evidence that the structures, including our academy, are starting to deliver results.

"The Reds in particular have provided the stage on which young WA players have been able to showcase their skills, attract the attention of talent scouts, and consequently be recruited into the NRL club system."

Former Perth players now playing in the NRL are Corey Patterson at North Queensland, Jon Green (Cronulla), Bryson Goodwin (Canterbury) and his brother Bronx (St George Illawarra).

Like McKendry I think they left Perth young and didn't play in the WARL Jnrs.
