If Rugby League Rocks, then Hull KR is its Soul.

Round 3 and much has been said and written in the media about our huge turnover in personnel from last year and our 13 new signings.

Here's my take on what I've seen so far. Would be interested in the opinions of others, assuming you don't fall asleep before you've read it all.

1.Dixon - a real threat and opportunist in attack with bags of speed and confidence, but crap in defence. Too small and light for fullback. Left wing would suit. Needs more game time. 6/10
3.Goulding - a major upgrade at centre. Good outfield defender and a creative, attacking opportunist. Needs to improve his goal line fringe defending with Sio, Kelly and McCarthy. 8/10
4.Mantellato - a goalkicker supreme. Awkward runner, so will never be a long distance threat. Defence and work rate OK. We need to use his height as an attacking threat. 7/10
5.Sio - Parramatta fans were upset when he left and it's easy to see why. A threat with the ball and a great combo already with Goulding. Needs to improve his defence. 8/10
6.Blair - now he's trimmer he looks the part. Good defender, reads game well, makes line breaks and runs good lines. With his versatility, he should play left centre in place of Salter. 7/10
7.Kelly - a gifted player, great foil for Campese and all round opportunistic, attacking threat. Very impressive work rate, good tackler and kicker. Needs to reduce risky play in our half. 8/10
13.McCarthy - a work horse with a creative spark. Not flash or brash, but gutsy and full of intensity. Defence is improving and expect him to be ever present if he stays injury free. 7/10
14.Allgood - looks a great signing. Good strong runner, hard defender and a goal line threat. His enthusiasm and intensity has brought the best out of Walker and Green so far. 9/10
15.Donaldson - shame he got injured early doors. Great defender. Doubts about his size and go forwards capability. 6/10
16.Bailey - showed a glimpse of his value at Wakefield. Will we see much of him this year? Very much doubt it. 6/10
17.Burke - Wigans loss IMO. Strong and versatile and good in attack and defence. Needs an offload game and must reduce his error count, but will improve with more game time. 7/10
23.Campese - Has lost a yard of pace and defence could be better. On performances to date he is a definite upgrade on Dobbo & Burns. Move to HKR has revitalised him. Good leader. 9/10
24.Boudebza - he's no Josh H, but has exceeded my expectations. Better passer, tackler and runner from dummy half than Carlile. Will only improve with more game time. 7/10

Converting the west to the promised land

I'd give Bailey a 4 right now. If what's true about his 'cant be arsed' attitude, then Leigh can have him if they want.

Where do you get the impression that Sio needs to work on his defence?

Missed tackles so far:

Kelly = 16
Blair = 5
Sio = 2

Lies, damn lies & statistics!

Purely my personal and subjective view, Stan.

Let's see if my opinions stand up to scrutiny by adopting an alternative perspective.

Stats are useful as a positional comparison, but quoting Sio missed tackles v. Kelly and Blair perhaps falls into the lies and damn lies category. Over the years, I've come to regard figures and stats as a tool to be interpreted not a material fact, a view honed listening to Arthur Scargill - the king of distorted facts, and every subsequent politician and trade union leader.

Looking at the bigger picture, Sio is a winger whereas the other 2 have played mainly in the middle. Blair played off the bench in Rounds 1 and 2. Kelly is everywhere across the park.
On the basis of involvement in the action, it's inevitable that Kelly given his size and position will miss more tackles than Blair and Sio, as the latter won't have many forwards charging in his direction. Kelly missed half of his tackles to date against Leeds and mostly in the last 15 minutes when he was so knackered, he could hardly jog.

As a final nail in the coffin of missed tackle stats, Sio has missed a greater percentage of tackles made than the other 2. Whoopeedoo. Sio in common with all our fringe defenders needs to stop flying in from his wing and let the play develop more. I'm confident it won't be an issue after Rd 6.

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

Frederick Douglas

We also as a team need to prevent Kelly being so involved in defence.

He made a ludicrous (discount I g his misses) amount of tackles in the first half against Leeds, players like Kelly are not there to defend, the system needs to refect that.

Good to see the Big Man(tellato) starting to rack up the points.
He has been top point scorer in his comp for 6 of the last 7 years I think.
You guys need to start winning so he can have another 300 point year.

He finally got some decent service from his centre today and took his chances well. Goalkicking is slacking though, he missed a penalty from the half way line :NAUGHTY:

It's a mere 16 from 18 attempts so far.

Amazing that even fans/posters with half an ounce of intelligence are sleep-walking into a relegation nightmare...this is the worst Hull KR team since the 89 team that got relegated..a similar mix of ex international cant be arsed together with many not good enough's...

Rovers are cast iron casey for the bottom four...probably bottom two with Hull...embarrassing for the city ...all you must take some share of the blame for NEVER questioning the clubs or leadership and for the general attitude within the town...terrible and coming home to roost...
