What I heard was mike smith said the identified two targets and we are very close to one of those.

I haven't heard anything, but it wouldn't surprize me if former Canberra prop Sam Mataora would be a target.
He played 30 odd firstgrade games with Canberra in his late teens and early 20s, but fell out of favour and left the club.
Mid last season he got a lifeline from the Knights and has been pretty good in NSW cup last year and this year.
He looks really fit and is one of the best props in NSW cup but can't get a run at the Knights. He has played with Campese and Mantellato and at 23 he would be keen to find a club that will give him a go. He is a powerful 120kg prop who scores a lot of tries with his unstoppable runs at the line.
I'd be sorry to lose him, but I expect he is getting pretty impatient in the Knights reserves.

An ex rovers player told me on tuesday that bailey was gone and that rovers had agreed a deal with shillington for the rest of the season but he wants to keep his options open for next year. He also said leeds have agreed a 3 year deal with micky paea for next year

so if its agreed then neil isn't needed in aus most paperwork would be faxed through.. also why would neil go to aus this week and miss the derby and huddersfield game.... it doesn't make sense.. but the shillington deal does like campese get him over here playing see if its a great fit for both player and club. then talk new deals

Regarding David Shillington:

Shillington was a very good member of Sydney Roosters squad, but was released (against his will) for salary cap reasons and went to Canberra before Ricky Stuart arrived.

You can see what Ricky Stuart's record of judging and selecting quality players is when you see that he had no place for Terry Campese at Canberra. (I would also remind you, for another example, that when he was at Sydney Roosters Ricky Stuart could find no place in the top grade for Roosters U-20 captain Jamie Soward, now a star at Penrith). So if Hull KR get Shillington (State of Origin and Australian representative) they will have struck gold again. But he needs a couple of fit and capable partners to help carry the burden of an 80 minutes game.

Shillington is an extremely articulate man, with a refined accent, and great poise, and is perfect for the television and radio media. He as been used as a TV commentator in Australia. You would think that he was a top university graduate, even though he isn't.

Taking his daughter with him,maybe for a weeks holiday as well. But I take your point, strange him missing a derby.

on facebook people are saying what roopey said sam matora. but isn't he contracted to newcastle til 2017, atleast shillington is off contract end of season so may not cost us a transfer fee
