good to see Sam sign up, I think he has potential. Just my thoughts and I will be interested to see what the other ( 3) posters on here think, I think that "most" of the players in our current squad ARE good enough to get us promotion with a few quality signings I do believe in the team we have got, But and there is always a but, there seems to be a weak link that prevents this talented bunch of guys from excelling and playing some good rugby, cant seem to put my finger on it though,, anyone got any thoughts.

They are too many that are not tall enough and have not muscled up to offset this disadvantage. They are getting beat up by bigger guys. It's a simple as that.
And they are not good enough to get promotion, they have demonstrated that. Other sides have injuries, so ignore that straw man.
Barrow have the right size mix. The Dons should heed that.
I can't imagine Thornton will though ...

And furthermore, Thornton placed an emphasis on fitness, yet just about every side that comes to the Keepmoat looks fitter, more athletic.
Which is supported by how rubbish we are in second halves. We are not fit enough on average.

I think S-o that Gary Thornton like PC has been given a team , would you accept that.
In other words its not all his fault .

Gary Thornton has denied that's been the case. I know it would be hard for him to admit it if it were true though.

Every coach must be given the money and allowed to spend it in the way they see fit. That is what they're paid for. If I was the coach and the club told me who was coming in, and I didn't agree 100% with the choices I'd resign as a matter of principle, and so should Gary Thornton if this is what's happening.

I think this was Gary Thornton's side.

I don't think he was given anything but a budget and some players who wanted to stay and who made sense in terms of continuity.

The budget was the limiting thing, he like Cooke could not offord the best, not even the second best, so he like Cooke did what he could.
However he constructed a side that wasn't big enough, particularly the backs. That is down to him.

Anyway, we will see what he does next ... he clearly gives no indication what mistakes he made, assuming he can analyse where it went wrong and recognise mistakes. He, like so many coaches, is not specific and talks in generalities.
