it is generally more expensive in Aus, but wages are also higher. But I questioned the statement that everything was more expensive. London is generally more expensive than Sydney...
It's like saying Budapest is cheap, it is inexpensive if you earn a UK salary, but the wages in Budapest are lower.

The cost of living over there i e food, housing, booze which is where most of your money goes is a great deal more than England although I will give you that London is on par,but we dont live in London.

you may not, but some don't live in Hull, people live all over and still comment on here.

I think you don't realise how expensive London is.
I know there are some foodstuffs that are cheaper over there than here, also housing in N.QLD and many places is in fact is cheaper than many parts of the UK, certainly land for development can be silly money compared to much of the UK.
I was going to buy a business out there a couple of years ago - small local bike shop with cafe in Mackay specifically, given what was included (it had a sizeable residence above), tons of goodwill, geographic location, it was an absolute steal for what it was (can't remember the figure tbh)
I just had a quick look and you can buy a solid brick built 2 bedroom house in a reasonable area in Mackay within easy walking distance of the beach and the town centre for £79,000. Please find me somewhere like that in the UK that isn't a hole!
Friends parents live in Mill Hill, the A1/A41 runs literally right behind their back garden, 3bed semi, £900k, 2 bed maisonette is about £500k for that area. £900k buys you a 107sqm 2 bed apartment on a high floor in Astoria Tower, Sydney which has a view over the water and slap bang in the city centre. Town hall, maritime museum, zoo, Australia museum AND Chinatown all within 10 minutes walk tops.
The same money further into London gets you a 61sqm 1 bed on the 10th floor of a block near Oldgate tube, you might see HMS Belfast if you're on the right side of the building
