The current team is shaping up as follows so far (Remember all votes are still open for new voters but are a few pages down in the forum now. I'll bump them up from time to time). 1. Gary Kemble 2. Clive Sullivan 3. Garry Schofield 4. James Leuluai 5. Jack Harrison
I'll start the thread for the scrum half towards the weekend, and i'm really looking forward to this one
Actually a tough choice, I really like RH, always tackled well above his weight, honest as the day is long but just not in the inventive mould of Topliss..surprised not to see Ah Kuoi in the list tbh because I would have voted for him over both.
Difficult choice, Whitty apart I have seen them all in a Hull shirt. Toppo was the best but his Hull career was relatively short (as was Mackey's) and in some ways seems an appendix (though a glorious one) to his Wakefield career - I would guess he'd be a very strong contender for their all time team. Hancock was unlucky to be playing when the club was going through some rough times, but though always one of the teams best he didn't get much beyond a couple of Yorkshire appearances. None the less a great servant to the club if not in the game's elite. In the end I went for Horne, a long one club career and at his best a very good player indeed close to Toppo's standard but over a longer period. In some ways he suffers because injuries sometimes affected his consistency in later years and thats what might be fresher in some peoples minds.
reading between the lines as it was just before my time, it looks like toppo benefitted from having great players to work with. all due respect to the wakey team of the time but they were not really top classs and toppo may not have had some of the space and options that he did at hull.
i'm sure if he were around today, bless him, he would probably admit he should have moved on earlier in his career
and as for fred ah kuoi, i saw just about all of his games for hull and though he was excellent, he was just behind the other 5 in terms of their contribution to the club. its a tough choice but there are only 5 spaces in the single position categories and he would definately be no.6
however he almost made it on the strength of the len casey incident at craven park, when we applauded the new champions onto the pitch and then stuffed them

Toppo was a top class player at Wakey and they were a better side than Hull in the 70s, not brilliant but always in the top division and never threatened by relegation. In fact they finished above Hull in Toppos last season with them. He was definitely recognised as one of the best players in the game then, getting international recognition and a Lance Todd trophy on a losing team. So I disagree about Hull helping his performance, he helped Hull more and deserves all the credit he gets. A great player to see in the black & white though and it is a pity he didn't come to Hull earlier.

Fred battering Casey, who had made a career out of bullying and cheap shotting half backs and small players, remains one of my all time favourite moments. Perhaps we can have a favourite incidents poll after the player voting is done.
Just a comment on the stand off poll - and I'm not suggesting he was one of the greatest - but I'm surprised there wasn't a single mention of Gary Pearce who I always thought was a talented, strong and entertaining stand off

thats a really good shout - i was surprised too but you have to go with what was offered up in terms of the lists

thanks for that, as i said it was a bit of guesswork on my part as it was before my time. i know we we far from a powerhouse of the game in the 70s, but i was a bit surprised he wasn't picked up by a widnes or a wigan at the time (say whan he was mid 20s)
who were the dominant teams of the early to mid 70s?
