I struggle to see any benefit to playing as many fringe players as you did, surely the final friendly is the time to pick your strongest team and play at match tempo for long periods so you are fully prepared come round 1. 40/50 mins against us is not ideal prep for a league season, lets face it York was a training session.
I can see the no injuries point, but I'd hazard an injury is as likely to happen in training when not at full intensity and knocks occur.
I'm obviously no expert, but for me it was an opportunity for you guys to build some momentum into hudds game, and play with some intensity and combinations in a game situation close to big kick off.
Might not always work, look at us yesterday full team near enough and a dreadful performance, thing is we probably still took a lot from the game to work on (especially in defence) so in a warped way not a wasted journey.
